Geraldine L. Grommesh, 87, Fargo, ND, died on Tues., Dec. 31, 2013 at Elim Care Center, Fargo. Geraldine Lucille Fedje was born Jan. 29, 1926 in Hoople, ND to Edwin and Lily (Traverse) Fedje. She graduated from Hoople High School and then attended North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND. She worked as a secretary at the West Fargo Stockyards. Gerry was united in marriage to Murlen Hagen on January 18, 1948. They made their home near Ayr, where they raised their family and farmed for many years. She prepared multiple meals daily for the farm hands and was especially known for her bread made from scratch. They were members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ayr. Murlen passed away April 19, 1975. In 1985, Gerry served as a ND Farm Bureau chairperson of the women's committee and on the board of directors. She was also an active member at Messiah Lutheran Church and volunteered at St. Luke's Hospital and Bonanzaville. Gerry married Harold Grommesh in Aug. of 1986 and they resided in Fargo. They moved to the Waterford (Touchmark) in 2005. Harold passed away July 15, 2006. Gerry then moved to Elim Care Center in 2011. She enjoyed needlepoint and jigsaw puzzles, as well as being an active member of the community club, birthday club, ladies aid, and an election judge. Gerry is survived by her children, Bruce (Denise) Hagen of Ayr, Diane (Jeff) Nord of Pelican Rapids, Charlotte Hagen of Fargo, and Mark Hagen of Victoria, MN; step-children, Charles (Helen) Grommesh of Fargo and Nancy (Joe) Treviso of Albuquerque, NM; 9 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 4 step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Earlyce (Lloyd) Pladson of Pelican Rapids and Joyce (LaVoy) Olson of Hoople; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Carla Hagen; and brother, Lyle Fedje. Special thanks to Touchmark and Elim for their wonderful care of Gerry. Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer's Association. Visitation: Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014 from 5 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at West Funeral Home, 321 Sheyenne St., West Fargo, ND. Funeral: Friday at 2 PM at West Funeral Home Chapel, West Fargo with visitation one hour prior. Interment: Buffalo (ND) Cemetery.
