Geraldine R. Mealing

Funeral Services for Ms. Geraldine R. Mealing, 89, who entered into rest October 20, 2017, will be conducted Monday morning at 10 o'clock from the Posey Funeral Chapel. Rev. W. Sherrell Dunn officiating. Private Family interment will be held in Sunset Hill Cemetery.

Ms. Mealing was a native of Lake View, SC, having made North Augusta her home for the past 65 years. She graduated as Valedictorian of Lake View High School and later graduated from Winthrop College with a B.S. degree in Biology and a Minor in Education. Following her graduation from Winthrop, she perused her career in education. Ms. Mealing taught at the high school in Gastonia, NC before moving to Tubman Junior High School in Augusta, GA. Along with her aunt, Julia Mealing, she founded Woodland Kindergarten in North Augusta and later taught at Curtis Baptist School at the elementary, middle school and high school levels. Ms. Mealing continued with additional education earning her Masters and her Education Specialist degrees from Augusta College. She concluded her teaching career, retiring from Spirit Creek Middle School in Augusta. In addition to her career, she also taught swimming lessons at Getzen's Pond, was an active member of Curtis Baptist Church where she was a member of the Nancy Wilcox Sunday School Class and the 39er's Senior Group, was a former member of the Hill and Dale Garden Club and a founding member of the Scarlet Belle and Red Hatters, where she served as Grand Duchess. Ms. Mealing was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, J.D. and Muriel Rogers, Jr.; a sister, Jaxie Foxworth; and her former husband and life-long friend, Dr. Henry G. Mealing, Jr.

Survivors include a sister Billie (Bobby) Polson, Cheraw, SC; two daughters, Katherine M. (Tony) Hunt, Charlotte, NC, Mary Alice Mealing Bell, North Augusta, SC; a son, Henry G. (Amy) Mealing, III, Evans, GA; six grandchildren, Katie (Michael) McKay, Michael (Rachel) Hunt, Christopher (Jennifer) Hunt, Daniel Mealing, Samantha (Eli) Holt, Allison "Alli" Bell; three great-grandchildren, Jane, Jackson and Piper Hunt.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the Nancy Wilcox Sunday School Class and the 39er's Senior Group. Active Pallbearers will be Daniel Mealing, Eli Holt, Michael Hunt, Christopher Hunt and Frank McKnight.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 6 until 8.
