Gerda Marcelletti Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 9, 2025.
Gerda (94) was born on January 17, 1931, in Berlin, Germany, to Richard and Gertrude Hupker. She met her husband, Albert Marcelletti, while he was stationed in Berlin during the Berlin Airlift. They married in Germany before returning to the United States and went on to share 71 loving years together, most of them in Rome, NY. In Rome, Gerda worked as a skilled hairdresser for 25 years. She was an endlessly selfless caretaker who always ensured her family's well-being. She will be remembered for her nurturing personality, her delicious and carefully prepared dishes, and the many beautiful pieces of handmade knitwear she created for her home and her loved ones. Gerda loved keeping busy with books, yardwork, and puzzles. She also enjoyed traveling and took several memorable trips to Europe, Africa, and Russia with her family. As a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.

Gerda is survived by her daughters, Gloria Sestito (Fred) of St. Petersburg, FL, and Barbara Marcelletti of Tampa, FL; her son, Albert Marcelletti (Janet) of Tampa, FL; her grandchildren, Marc Florczyk (Deanna), Eric Florczyk, Karla Marcelletti, and Bianca Marcelletti; and her great-grandchildren, Taylor and Brooke Florczyk. Predeceased by her husband, Albert Marcelletti.

Internment will take place at 11:30 AM on September 19th, 2025, at Sarasota National Cemetery, followed by a Mass of Resurrection at 2:00 PM at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the caring nurses and doctors at Melech Hospice House. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gerda's memory to the Melech Hospice House of Chapters Health System at www.chaptershealth.org/for-volunteers-donors/personal-giving/.

Our family is so saddened to hear of Gerda´s passing. We all resided on Evans Rd. She was a close friend of our Mom and her trusted hairdresser until she moved south. They walked together, shared recipes and assisted each other with their knitting projects. Gerda an my Mom kept in touch about once a month until my Mom passed away last September.

Our deepest sympathies to the family and RIP dear Gerda.

I was saddened (and surprised) to see Gerde's obituary online. It seems like I just spoke with her over the phone not long ago. She was diligent in calling me at least a couple of times a year and it was always great hearing from her. She was my mom's (Lois) hairdresser for so long and mom missed her when she moved down south. . . not just because she lost her hairdresser, but she considered your mom as a friend and confidant. Gerde was a sweet lady. I think of her everytime I go by the house on Evans Road. You have my deepest sympathy and I am so sorry for your loss.
