Gerry B Rosenzweig

ROSENZWEIG. Gerry B. Rosenzweig, age 96, of Boca Raton, FL, passed away peacefully on Monday (September 4, 2023). Gerry was born on October 16, 1926, in Bayonne, New Jersey. Her parents were Gussie Zax and William Barress. She grew up in New Jersey and graduated high school in Bayonne and college at New York University.

She met her husband, Joel Rosenzweig, after he returned from World War II and married in 1947. After a few moves they settled in Baldwin, Long Island, raising four children, Michael, Robin, Scott, and Richard. She was a pioneer for her time, one of the first generation of professional women outside the home who also raised a family. Gerry and Joel enjoyed a full life of travel with friends and family during their 41-year marriage before he passed away.

Gerry lived the second phase of her life to the fullest, enjoying travel, the arts, and even continuing her education. But nothing she did held the place in her heart as did her six grandchildren, Lindsey (Cinque), Jaclyn (Morrison), Jason, Jeremy (Godsey), Jesse (Godsey), and, Joel, and her seven great grandchildren. Gerry moved to Florida where she was part of a vibrant community of old friends from Long Island and new friends from all over. She was an avid bridge player, theater and movie goer and relished her meetings with friends to discuss the latest news. She even snuck away to New York on her 91st birthday to see Hamilton on Broadway.

Gerry leaves a loving family including: her daughter Robin Godsey, husband Jim Godsey and Gerry's grandchildren Jesse and Jeremy; Gerry's daughter-in-law Janice; Gerry's grandchild Lindsey Cinque, her husband Bryan, and Gerry's great grandchildren Cait, Jack and Erin; Gerry's grandchild Jaclyn Morrison, her husband Ryan, and Gerry's great-grandchildren Caroline, Grace, Poppy, and Quinn; and Gerry's son Richard, his wife Sarah, and Gerry's grandson Joel and his fiancé Lilly Worthley. She was predeceased by her husband Joel, her sons Scott and Michael, and her beloved grandson, Jason.

A private funeral will be held Friday, September 8 in Long Island and a memorial will take place in Boca Raton, Florida, later in September. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift in Gerry's honor to her favorite charity, St Jude Children's Research Hospital.
