Gerry VanKlompenburg Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 20, 2010.
Gerry VanKlompenburg Gerry VanKlompenburg, 78 years, passed unexpectedly February 12 in Nanaimo, BC. Gerry was born in Utrecht, the Netherlands August 25, 1931 and emigrated to Canada with her young family in June, 1958. She was employed as an orderly in the Saskatoon Veterans' Home for many years, caring for those who had liberated her homeland. In 1997, Gerry and her husband relocated to Nanaimo, BC to begin their retirement. Until her death, Gerry lovingly cared for her husband, Dries, who was diagnosed in 1999 with Alzheimer's disease. Gerry leaves to mourn her husband, of 58 years, Dries; son Andy (Gail); daughter Elsha (Alan); granddaughter Shauna (Ryan) and greatgrandchildren Payton & Matthew; from the Netherlands brother Dirk (Willie), brother-inlaw Aart (Wien); her beloved dog Randy plus numerous nieces & nephews. Gerry had a kind, compassionate heart; she deeply cared for all animals and would never turn a lost animal away from her door. She faithfully fed the neighbourhood cats, dogs, birds and raccoons who will miss her dearly. She loved to read and walk her dog. Gerry requested no funeral, preferring instead that you do a kind act for an animal or plant a flower or tree in the spring. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the SPCA.
