Gerson Aronovitz Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 2, 2013.
Gerson Harvey Aronovitz passed away peacefully on Monday, the 1st of April, 2013 after a struggle with Parkinson's disease. He was born in Rochester, NY in 1932 and came to Atlanta in 1960. For 47 years Dr. Gerson Aronovitz was the pediatrician to thousands of Atlanta children. He loved going each day to his solo practice on Clairmont Road, where he cared for multi-generations of patients and took their calls directly 24 hours a day. He often said he had the best patients who valued his traditional style of practice. He and his beloved late wife of 44 years Avis raised their family in the Briarcliff Woods neighborhood close to his office, which allowed him to go home for lunch each day and to check on his two greenhouses of orchids. In addition to flowers, Gerson loved classical music, art, travel and reading the New York Times but most of all he loved his family, especially his five grandchildren who called him "Poppop." Although they often disturbed the quiet of his home, he was completely devoted to them and attended all their school events. They will never forget having sleepovers at his house where they knew he would make them chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast. Gerson will forever be remembered for his generosity, gentleness, and unique sense of humor and laughter. Surviving are his daughter, Pamela Aronovitz of Los Angeles, Tracy Dorfman of Atlanta, Caroline and David Adelman of Singapore; grandchildren, Oscar, Leah and Avery Adelman and Maddie and Audrey Dorfman; brother and sister-in-law, Martin and Alice Aronovitz of Colorado Springs; sister, Fraeda Parish of Ft. Lauderdale. Graveside services will be held Thursday morning the 4th of April at nine o'clock at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt. Vernon Hwy., Sandy Springs. Rabbi Mark Zimmerman will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Grand Central Station, P.O. 4777, NY, NY 10163-4777

To the Family of Dr. Gerson Aronovitz:
I am really sad to learn about the passing of Dr. Aronovitz. In the mid 80's, I was a clinical monitor for a pharmaceuticval company and worked with him on clinical trials. I often visited his office and loved my time there. He was an ethical clinical investigator who loved his patients and wanted the best treamtent for them. Once he called me and mentioned that he was looking for a clinical trial and asked me if I had anything for him. He mentioned that he liked working with me. It was a such an amazing joy for me to get that call, as I had the utmost respect for him, and knowing that he and his wife wanted to work with me made feel great.
May his soul progress in the next world. My deepest sympathy to his dear family.

My husband and I were very saddened when we heard of the passing of Dr. Aronovitz. He was always very nice and helpful when he was on call for Dr. Wilson, our primary pediatrician. They both were cut from the same cloth when it came to "caring and curing" our children. His passing is a great loss to this community indeed. Our thoughts are with his family.

I just heard of his passing today, from MY pediatrician when I was a child (and who later became my children's doctor until his retirement), Dr. Henry Wilson. Dr. Aronovitz was always my "substitute" doctor whenever Dr. Wilson was out of the office. I always remembered Dr. Aronovitz to be a kind man ~ absolutely perfect for working with children ~ and I saw that and so much more the time I had to talk with him once I became a mother. His wisdom and knowledge was very apparent to me, once I became an adult. I am so sorry for this terrible loss; he will be truly missed.

It is very sad to learn that Dr. Aronovitz has departed this life. He was beloved by me, and my comments will echo the appreciation all of us parents felt at his warmth and attention to our babies and children. Rest in peace, Dr. Aronovitz.

After dissatisfaction with the original pediatrician we'd chosen, we were so happy to find Dr. Aronovitz. His practice embodied old school care and concern, and was close to our home. A fine man, he will be missed!

Our boys called him Dr. Aronobitz, usually accompanied with a stopped up nose. He was kind, gentle and always responsive. He and his wife were such special people and such a big part of our lives as parents.

Dr and Mrs A were responsible for helping me to raise a son and daughter. I was always made to feel that my children were the most important of all. What a great boost of confidence for a new mom! I once locked my keys and newborn son in my car. Dr A quickly came to my rescue with coat hanger-tool in hand. He unlocked my car while telling me, "It's OK, I do this about once a month!"

Pam,

I am so sorry to hear about your Dad. Growing up, I always felt like he was a second father to me- such a kind and gentle man- always putting his family first! Please know that you, Tracy and Caroline are all in my prayers. Take care...

Dr. A and Avis--what a team! They provided my children with many years of care. We still have some "lamb's ear" in our yard that Ms. Aronovitz so generously shared when my daughter liked it. What a wonderful legacy they both left to us. Sherbergers

In 1963 Dr. Aronovitz became our family's pediatrician, taking excellent care of me until I left for college, and then from 1981 until he retired-he was our children's doctor, and our trusted friend and advisor. Dr. Aronovitz was one of a kind-and we'll treasure his memory. What a role model he was -as a doctor, parent, grandparent, and Mensch! Although a year would sometimes pass between our appointments, Dr Aronovitz would always amaze me by remembering my children's favorite flavor of Tootsie Roll Pops, and often, while my kids were occupied with their treats, he would pull up a chair and visit for a few minutes. He relished the chance to share some bit of news about his children or grandchildren, or his latest trip abroad. He (and Avis) always asked about my work, and encouraged my efforts whether I was performing, choreographing or teaching.
When I taught dance to his granddaughters, Leah and Avery, I was as thrilled as they were to see Dr. Aronovitz in the audience-smiling and waving to me-! It was almost like my own Dad was there. God bless you, Dr. Aronovitz!

To the family of Gerson Aronovitz:
My condolences for the lost of your loved one. Death can be hard but our heavenly father can make it easier when we remember what he promises. He said that "no resident will say, I am sick. In the near future he will cure all our sicknesses by means of his son Christ Jesus. Mr. Aronovitz would really appreciate that since he was a Dr. May you gain comfort from this hope.

Dr. Aronovitz was my children's pediatrician & was a wonderful doctor. He was always so caring, kind & patient. I always knew they were in the best of care. Your mom was always so sweet making going to the doctor as pleasant as possible. What a blessing all of you, the family, were to have such good examples in your lives. His patients were blessed also to have a doctor that was always there for them. My deepest sympathy goes out to all of you, Anna Parker

Thoughts and prayers for your family. Dr. Aronovitz was the doctor for my two daughters. I could call him so upset about whatever problem the girls were having and just listening to his calm voice made me feel so much better. He was so patient and caring - he even treated me when I couldn't get into another doctor for a problem I was having. May have been his oldest patient. He was loved and admired by all of us.

We wanted to express our sympathy to the family of Dr. Aronovitz. We loved him and his wife! After a questionable experience with another pediatrician, we transferred to Dr. A in 1988 when our son was less than 1 year old. He cared for him and my daughter throughout their childhood years. We have fond memories of the humble office, Avis's warmth in greeting us, and Dr. A's willingness to have us call him at any time. It was unbelievable that we could always come in and he would make time to see us. He made a difference in his world! May his soul rest in peace...and may God comfort you in your loss.

April 4, 2013

With deepest condolences to the Aronovitz family during your time of grief...God is for you a refuge and strength, A help that is there to be found during difficult times...May God provide you with peace and comfort to endure the days ahead.

We are sad to read about Dr. Roni. Our childrens name for the Doctor. We first met him in 1963 with two young children. We were friends with Avis and Dr. Roni in the Rhododendron Society for many years. Avis was kind enough to use Raymond's information in her "Gardening Around Atlanta" book. We are Gwinnett residents and remember Tracy's good work in the District Attorney's office. Ann, Raymond, Angela, and John Goza

He was my doctor from '65 until I grew up & went to nursing school in '80. I had severe asthma as a child. Countless times he met me & my parents at his office in the wee hours of the morning to treat my asthma. I'm confident I wouldn't have survived without his care. I remember him so very fondly. I'm not surprised to learn that he was a very special "Poppop". Doctor's families make sacrifices, thank you for sharing your wonderful dad, grand-dad with his forever grateful patients. May he rest in peace.

I was a patient of this great man in the late 60s and early 70s. When my son was born, Dr. Aronovitz agreed to take him on as well, even though he had "officially" stopped taking new patients. He answered every panicked telephone call made in the middle of the night and he often had tears in his eyes whenever an injection or exam made my son cry. Every visit ended in a hug and you always knew you and your child were loved and cared for. There has never been, nor ever will be, a man or physician like him.

April 3, 2013

Im sorry for your lost. May your family rely on God in this time of gtief.
