AKERS, Gertrude Bancroft "Giddy" Died peacefully on February 13, 2023, from complications of Multiple System Atrophy. She passed with her daughters and husband by her side. Giddy was the daughter of the late William M. Bancroft and the late Gertrude S. Bancroft. She is survived by her husband of almost 40 years, Stephen Akers of Dedham; her daughters, Gertrude Storey Akers and Louise Womble Akers, both of Brooklyn, NY; her sister, Susan Bancroft Espinoza; her brother, William M. Bancroft; and sister-in-law, Dr. Alice Murphy; her best friend, Rowena Alston; and a large network of extended family members and dear friends. Giddy was born in Providence, RI. After graduating from Milton Academy and Harvard College, she pursued careers in publishing and healthcare consulting in New York and Boston. While living in California and raising her two daughters, she also served as a Junior Fellow of the Huntington Gardens and Library. Upon returning to Boston, she became an active member and President of The Tuesday Club and served as a board member at St. Mark's School, the institution her daughters attended. Exceptionally loving, kind, witty, and intelligent, Giddy was the best spouse, mother, and friend imaginable. She will be remembered for her grace, humor, and selfless generosity. She is irreplaceable and will be greatly missed. A Private Memorial Celebration will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation in her honor to a charity of choice is suggested.
