Gil Bunker made Stephen Girard proud throughout his entire life. He truly lived by the Girard motto: "My deeds must be my life." A magnanimous and devoted member of the GCAA, Gil gave of himself tirelessly to so many causes, always placing service to others at the center of his life.
I had the privilege of working with Gil each year during one of his most meaningful traditions-our annual visit to Laurel Hill Cemetery during the holiday season to honor and remember Girardians who had passed away. Gil would arrive in his signature steel and garnet Santa hat, bringing with him not only festive spirit, but also a deep reverence for history. He would share stories, fun facts, and thoughtful reflections with the student body, always prepared with an up-to-date and meticulously researched list of alumni interred there. His commitment to honoring those who came before us was inspiring.
I will miss my friend Gil deeply. May he rest in peace. Til our hearts be still...
Thank you, Gil.
