Gilbert MURRAY Obituary

Published by Ottawa Citizen from Jul. 28 to Aug. 4, 2012.
MURRAY, Gilbert
"Gil", "Gib" or "Gibby"
Born September 19, 1932 in Dublin, Ontario. Gilbert passed away peacefully with his family by his side, July 27th, 2012 at the May Court Hospice in Ottawa. Gil was in his 80th year.
Much loved husband of 53 years to Elizabeth "Betty" Murray, faithful father of Michael Murray (Gyneth), David Murray and Louise Murray (Barry Crowder).
Papa was adored by his grandchildren, Joshua, Alec, Evan, Madeline and Colin.
Gil was predeceased by his loving parents, Gilbert and Rose Murray of Dublin, Ontario and caring siblings Betty Ryan of Seaforth, Ontario, Dr. Joseph Murray (Olga) of Guelph, Ontario, Martin Murray of Seaforth, Ontario and Patrick Murray (Patricia) of London, Ontario and his father & mother-in-law Duncan and Mary McEachern of Sarnia.
He leaves behind his brother, Leon Murray (Rosemary) of Toronto sister Rita Butters (Ron) of St. Thomas, Ontario, sister Rose Costello of Kitchener and sister Mary Stapleton (Robert) of Kitchener.
Gil will be missed by his in-laws, Joan and John Hawkins of Tecumseh, Ontario, David and Anne McEachern of Wyoming, Ontario, Colleen and Harry Cremers of Calgary, Alberta, Ann Peck of Palmetto, Florida, Jean McEachern of Sarnia, Ontario and Annabelle Walters of New Port Ritchey, Florida. He is predeceased by his in-laws Jim and Sally O'Reilly, Bill and Kay McCormack and Dan McEachern - all of Sarnia, Ontario. He is also predeceased by brothers-in-law Walter Peck of Palmetto, Florida, Stephen McEachern of Long Island, New York, Dan Costello of Kitchener and Jack Ryan and Theresa Murray of Seaforth, Ontario.
Uncle Gil was much loved and will be missed by all of his numerous nieces and nephews.
Gilbert had positions in many fields. The word, 'can't' was not part of his vocabulary. He had lengthy careers as a foundry foreman and as a realtor – both in the city of Sarnia, Ontario.
When Gil was challenged by a business failure, he decided to look at the open door instead of the closed one. He enrolled in Wilfred Laurier University and completed a four year B.B.A. in three years. Gil then served his country as an accountant at the Canada Revenue Agency for twenty-four years.
Gil was a business builder too. After his retirement from Canada Revenue Agency. He along with his wife, Betty, acquired and managed a rental property business in Ottawa.
Recreationally, Gil enjoyed gardening, playing golf, hunting, old-timer hockey, baseball and euchre. He also enjoyed the comforts that a cool glass of wine can bring.
Family will receive friends on Monday, July 30, 2012 from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. & , 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. at the Pinecrest Remembrance Visitation Centre (2500 Baseline Rd., Ottawa).
Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Monica's Roman Catholic Church, 2080 Merivale Road, Ottawa. A Reception will follow in the church hall.
A private family interment will be held on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 in Calabogie, Ontario.
Donations in Gilbert's Name will be graciously accepted for Christian Horizon's (Ottawa Chapter), Hospice at May Court Ottawa or the Canadian Mental Health Association.

Dear Betty, and family,
We wish to extend our sincere condolences for your loss. (We were out of town and could not attend the services.)
Phil had many pleasant talks and laughs with Gil on our street corner.
We will remember you and Gil.
Take care,
Your Avonlea neighbours,
Phil & Anna Zrymiak.

You have my sympathies on the passing of Uncle Gib. Reeading the obituary evoked many childhood memories for me. I have brief memories of you living in Sarnia and many of you living in Kitchener and Waterloo. I remember your many swimming hours at early mornings. I remember visiting past midnight on Christmas Eve contravening the stroke of midnight when all good children sjould be in bed for Santa to arrive. I remember marvelling at hearing about Laurier's bussiness program and again when uncle Gib worked so hard that he went to university right through every summer. (For a school aged kid to think that another student - albeit an adult -to not have the summer off school was unthinkable. I remember when you moived so far away, all the way to Ottawa and Christmas visits became fewer. I remember visiting in Ottawa when I was recently married. I remember a welcoming family inspiring orhers that difficulties could be overcome.
