GILBERT FRANK WENDEL

   HILLJE - Gilbert Frank Wendel, 91, of Hillje, passed away on Feb. 14, 2010. He was born on Dec. 8, 1918, in Mentz, to the late Edmund and Clara Braden Wendel. He was a farmer and a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. Gilbert was a member of St. Procopius Catholic Church, V.F.W. Post 2786, American Legion Post 251, Knights Of Columbus Council 9394, and S.P.J.S.T.
   He married Evelyn Popp on Jan. 2, 1946, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Hillje and together they raised 5 children on their farm.
   Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Evelyn Wendel of Hillje; daughters, Barbara Immenhauser and husband Harvey of Nursery, and Dorothy Mondrik and husband Edward of Palacios; sons, Gary Wendel and wife Angie of Louise, Glenn Wendel and wife Wilma of Pipe Creek, and Gerald Wendel and wife Lisa of El Maton; sister, Geraldine Dettling of Bay City; brothers, Allen Wendel of Cat Spring and Bernard Wendel of Corpus Christi; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Edmunda Wendel and Magdeline Kudlac; and brothers, Clarence and Edmund Wendel Jr.
   Visitation will begin on Monday, Feb. 15, at 2 p.m. at Triska Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m., Monday, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Hillje. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 16, at 1 p.m. at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Hillje with the Rev. Clement Quainoo officiating. Burial will follow at St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery under the auspices of American Legion Post 251.
   Pallbearers will be Daryl Wendel, Jeffrey Wendel, Kyle Wendel, Preston Wendel, Michael Wendel, Joe Klimple, Chris Hessler, Scott Strelec, Douglas Mondrik and Donald Mondrik.
   Memorial donations may be made to St. Procopius Catholic Church, St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Houston Hospice-El Campo or donor's choice.
