Gillette Dauphinot Piper

Sarasota - Gillette Dauphinot Piper, a distinguished psychotherapist, passed away on Friday, December 1, at her home in Sarasota Florida. She was 82.

Born on May 3, 1941, Ms. Piper was the daughter of Nancy White, former editor -in-chief of Harper's Bazaar and Clarence J. Dauphinot founder of Deltec International, a leading international investment management company.

Before she retired to Sarasota, Ms. Piper spent many years as a psychotherapist focusing on improving the mental health of young people. As with everything she did, Ms. Piper brought warmth, wisdom, and an unwavering commitment to her clients' well-being.

Beyond her professional achievements, Ms. Piper pursued learning and exploration throughout her life. Her interests included Buddhism and Meditation and her explorations took her to Myanmar where she had an audience with Aung San Suu Ky, as well as safaris in Africa and numerous ocean sailing trips.

She was also devoted mother to her three children William Scott Piper, Michel Bauer and Dauphinot Derek Piper. Most recently she worked to improve her local community, volunteering many hours to organizing the local lending library.

Ms. Piper graduated Summa Cum Laude from Barnard College in 1963 with a degree in French Literature that included a year of study at the Sorbonne in Paris. She returned to school later in life to get her Masters in Social Work in 1985 from Barry University.

Ms. Piper is survived by her son William Scott Piper, Michel Bauer and her faithful four-legged companion, Hayden.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Women for Women, an organization closely aligned with Mr. Piper's core values. Women for Women invests in women survivors of war and conflict, providing them with social and economic skills to transform their own lives. The organization helps women pass their knowledge to those around them, creating a world where every woman's voice, role, and contribution are visible and valued.

A memorial service commemorating the life of Gillette Dauphinot Piper will take place Smithtown, New York in the spring, where her ashes will be laid to rest in a family plot.
