Gina Payne Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 14, 2011.
Gina Jolie (Gigi) Payne one of God's most precious and faithful angels was called home to be with Him on Tuesday, September 13, 2011. She died at Mississippi Medical Center in the arms of her loving mother, Paula Payne.

She also leaves behind her father, Jim Payne of Jackson, her sister, April Nall (Kevin) of Jackson, two nieces, Caroline and Cate Nall, a nephew, Will Nall and her brother, Jonathan Payne (America) and his son, Austin of Scottsdale, Az. She will also be missed by her uncle, Larry Payne (Liz) of Hattiesburg. Gina is also survived by her stepfather, Cal Adams of Madison.

Gina was born February 20, 1970 in Monroe, La. She graduated from Woodland Hills Academy in Jackson, Hinds Community College in Raymond and William Woods University in Fulton, Mo. where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority. After graduation she became a child-life assistant, counceling and working with children at the Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital at UMC. She was a member of the Mississippi Cancer Socity and the Jackson Junior League. She was named as one of Mississippi's Strong Women in a ceremony hosted by the Baptist Medical Center.

But most of all, Gina was a Christian and a life-long member of First Presbyterian Church of Jackson. Her love of, and her faith in God enabled her to earn the admiration and respect of everyone who came to know her. Her faith and her life lifted and inspired family, friends and hundreds of children who only knew her as the one who helped them in some of their darkest hours.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, September 15 at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home on Highland Colony Parkway in Ridgeland. Visitation will precede the service from 9:00 to 10:30 am. Gina will be buried near her beloved grandparents, G.B. and Atrelle (Gran and Friend) Hopson in the Delhi Cemetary in Delhi, La.

The family requests any remembrance of Gina be made in he form of a gift to the First Presbyterian Church in Delhi or to the Mississippi Cancer Socity.

Dear Payne family,
I am so saddened to learn of Gina's death. I worked with Gina for three years at Batson Children's Hospital. I loved her for her sweet spirit, her beautiful smile, her cute giggle and most of all for her love of Jesus Christ. She inspired all who knew her. My prayers and thoughts will be with your sweet family.

To Gina's family- Words cannot express the sadness I felt when I learned about Gina. The world lost a precious beacon of light and hope that will be sorely missed. However, I know that after Jesus there was a stream of children lined up to greet her in heaven. Death seems a little less scary to all of us and heaven a little brighter than before with Gina being there. Our family will be holding you up in prayer in the days to come. God bless you all!

Walking into an empty activity room in the mornings is so difficult. For the past couple of years I knew that Gina would be here by 7:45 no matter what and that was a huge comfort. She was the closest person I have ever had to a true friend, one that you can confide in, question, and always have a great time with. The preachers at the service truly had it right when they described her as a sunbeam and a true and faithful follower of Christ. Gina is one the strongest and best people I have ever met and was a true role model to everyone around her. She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. My hopes are to keep in touch with the family so that my memories of her never fade. I love you all and Thank You for sharing Gina with us. May she rest in peace and comfort in the arms of the Lord that she loved so dearly.

Gina's neighbors gathered to mourn her tragic and sudden loss before the loving tribute to her on Thurssday. We observed and admired Gina's courageous life as a standard bearer and example for less fortunate. Our prayers are for all her loved ones who grieve for her.

I am sorry to hear of your loss. I met Gina in 2001 when my sister was in the hospital and then I had the honor of volunteering with her from 2002-2010. She was an amazing woman. I hope you find peace in this time.

I am so thankful to have been blessed with the friendship of this very special lady. Gina was always so thoughtful, giving, and selfless. She was definitely a role model and a shining example of Christ's love. Gina was someone I really looked up to, and I always enjoyed every second I spent with her. I just cannot say enough wonderful things about her. I will never forget her sense of humor, her laugh (especially when she got REALLY tickled), and her GENEROUS heart. I am praying for her family and friends. She is so missed. I love you, Gina P!!!!

We were so sorry to hear of Ms. Gina's passing. She was so kind and helpful to our daughter who was recently a patient at Blair Batson. Our daughter had to have surgery there and was very apprehensive and Gina really helped to calm her fears. She was so understanding and it was so reassuring to my husband and myself to know there was someone like her who cared. Our prayers go out to her family. I could tell she was very unique - a very compassionate, classy and kind lady. We did not know she was ill. Please accept our deepest sympathies. We need more people on this earth just like her. - the Locke family of Raymond

Paula, so many years have passed since we lasted saw each other. I hope that the memory isn't so dim that you don't remember. I did not personally get to know your daughter, however, I do know your Lord and I know that he loved Gina and always had her best interest at heart. The devil tests our faith at times like this and it is my prayer that you will lean on Jesus and continue to praise his name.

I still cannot believe Gina is gone. My parents and I wish so much we could have made it to her service, and our thoughts and prayers are with our family in Jackson. We loved Gina so much. She was my sweet sweet cousin, and her faith in God was stronger than anyone I've ever known. Gina loved fiercely, and her family was her everything. She devoted herself to others, and she was a blessing to everyone that had the privilege of knowing her. Gina was so strong, and she fought her entire life for herself and for others to enjoy every bit of the life God gave us. This world was a better place with her in it, and I will miss her every day.

Mourning the loss of someone SSSSSSOOOOOOO dear to me and knowing she is embracing my sweet Nelson. Gina was someone who “soothed” me each and every time she saw me at the hospital, during and after Nelson’s life..…..more so after Nelson’s death………..when speaking at the Service of Remembrance I could always rely on her “eye contact” with me to keep me from “cracking up” as I talked about his life. That infectious smile and contagious laugh will forever be embedded in my memory. She got just what she prayed for this weekend……….Christ’s wisdom and peaceful rest!

Just know we will be rockin’ the airways for radio-a-thon this year all in her memory!!!!!!! She is already missed!

How can anyone who knew Gina forget that million dollar smile.I never saw her when she wasn't smiling or laughing from ear to ear. She had soooo much love for her family especially her Dad Jim.
We often feel it's not fair for someone soooo loving, and soooo giving and sooo young with such a zest for life, to be snuffed out before her time. Though,.....who are we to question God's will. He has a plan for you in Heaven.
Gina, you will be sorely missed for a really, really long time by all who knew and loved you.
May God Bless you and may God Bless you Jim, Paula, April, Jonathan and your entire family.
