Ginette McKenzie Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 23, 2022.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a wonderful wife, mother, and nana. Ginette passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by family, at the age of 74 after a brief battle with cancer.

Beloved wife and best friend of Brian, cherished mother of Michelle (Jeff) and Danielle (Jim), doting and proud nana of Tyler, Hilary, Jordyn and Jack.

Ginette touched the lives of all who knew her. Her laughter and vibrant personality could light up any room. With her contagious smile and kind heart Ginette led a wonderful life. She worked very hard and even when things were tough for her as a single mom, she always stayed positive and made sure her two girls had the best life she could possibly give them.

Ginette was a nurse for many years at Rygiel Supports for Community Living. She cared for and supported children and young adults with developmental and physical disabilites. She formed many friendships there and over the years continued to meet with her group of friends; the last gathering only a few short weeks ago.

Ginette was a huge fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and enjoyed her annual big outing to Toronto to watch them play. But mostly she enjoyed watching the games in the comfort of her own couch with Brian by her side.

Ginette and Brian enjoyed many years at their cottage in Sauble Beach. They welcomed many friends and family to their summer home. Ginette could often be found burning anything in sight in her fire pit, or baking a cake in anticipation of her family visitors. One of our fondest memories of our Mom/Nana is seeing her run out the cottage door with the biggest smile on her face to welcome us as we pulled up for our next visit. That smile was a true reflection of her immense love for her family.

When all is said and done, Ginette got the greatest joy from being with family. Family dinners on special occasions, with our games and laughter, were events to be treasured. The very best of Ginette; her sense of compassion, thoughtfulness, generosity, joy, strength and goodness will live on in the lives of her four grandchildren.

Ginette will be missed beyond measure by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She had a special place in her heart for her sister Michèle, brother-in-law Bill, brother Louis, and sister-in-law Nicole. A special thank you to Tori, and lifelong friends Gayle and Ray for your friendship and love.

One of Ginette's greatest gifts was knowing when to reach out and spread her kind and caring ways. In lieu of flowers please pay some kindness forward to friends, family, neighbours or a charitable donation of your choosing.

Cremation has taken place. A private family Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.

"So it's the laughter we will remember, whenever we remember the way we were..."

So sorry to hear about Ginette. Many great memories from Sauble including the bear looking back at her when she was trying to cool a pie in the window. God Bless

With great sorrow and still some disbelief, I am sending condolences on Ginette´s passing to her beloved Brian, and to her cherished daughters Michelle and Danielle and their families. Ginette was a one of a kind, deeply loved friend who, without discussion, just knew when something was needed or would be appreciated- whether it be organizing and packing to move (my miracle worker in this regard so often ) or an always fun outing to a favorite Dundas dining establishment to celebrate one of our birthdays. She could be counted on for incredible kindness, curiousity, and compassion. I will remember her generosity in making and sharing her delicious cookies, soup, and chilli . Knowing the care and concern that lay behind her always understated acts of kindness. Ginette and her fiercely proud and supportive ways will stay always in my heart.
