Gioconda "Gigi" 83, of Tigard,Ore., was taken to the Lord Tuesday, July 13, 2021 in Eugene, Ore., surrounded by family.
Gioconda was born May 21, 1938 in the city of Managua, Nicaragua to Oscar Arguello Portocarrero and Dolores Doña. She married Pedro Jose Chamorro and later in life, after being widowed at a relatively young age, married the love of her life David Wheelhouse. They had 10 wonderful years of marriage before David passed away. Gioconda was an active member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Tigard.
Gioconda had children Pedro Jose, who preceded her in death, Victor of Portland, Guillermo of Eugene and Julio of Miami. She is survived by grandchildren, Pedro of Salt Lake City, Christian, Julio, Marcel of Portland, and Lauren, Aidan of Eugene. She is survived by great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Victoria and Sebastian of Salt Lake City. She is survived by daughters-in-law, Katya of Portland and Sydney of Eugene. She is survived by her sisters, Gloria of Portland, Antonieta of Managua, Nicaragua and Nubia of San Diego. She is also survived and beloved by numerous nephews and nieces from around the world.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 16, 2021, at St Anthony's Catholic Church in Tigard, followed by a small gathering of family and friends at O'Reilleys center at the church. Interment will be held at a later date at Willamette National Cemetery, next to her late husband David.
In lieu of flowers, her family and her last wishes are that a charitable donation be made to Bristol Hospice.
