Giuseppina Remilli

(May 25, 1928 – November 2, 2018)
Peacefully, surrounded by her family, in her 91st year, after struggling with Alzheimer's. Predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Luigi Remilli; and by her 6 sisters and 1 brother. Giuseppina was a true force of a woman; full of strength, will and determination. Forever the optimist, she would always say that "tomorrow is a new day" and "all will pass." Full of limitless energy and tenacity that was matched only by the love for her children Gilbert (Nicki), Danny and Franca (David). Beloved Nonna to Christina (Emanuel) and Steven (Michelle). Cherished Bisnonna to Valentina, Cristiano and Leo.
Born in Castello di Godego, Treviso, Veneto, Italy. She went to work in Davos, Switzerland to help support her family in Italy after the Second World War. It was there that she met her husband-to-be, Luigi Remilli. In 1953, they were married and settled in Recesio di Bettola, Piacenza, Italy. In 1963 they moved to Hamilton with their first born. Giuseppina was an incredibly devoted wife, mother and friend; all while working full-time at various jobs and finally retiring from the Allan Candy Factory in 1995. While managing the household, she cared for her grandchildren and later cared for her ailing husband, inspiring all those around her to keep up. She was fiercely independent, loved to drive (she was "hell on wheels") and would drive her family and friends anywhere they needed to go. She loved to travel, party and loved music and dancing, as well as playing bocce, bingo and bowling. Her adoration for
her family and life was unparalleled. "Pinetta", as she was also lovingly known, had a touch of vanity and refused to discuss death. She often said "maybe God will forget me and leave me here!" Giuseppina was the driving force, inspirational leader and the heart of her family. She will be truly missed by family and friends. A heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff at St. Peter's Hospital, VON, DARTS and CCAC. Visitation at the MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street East, (at Kenilworth) on Tuesday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Vigil Prayers at 8 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, 165 Prospect Street North, Hamilton on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at 10 am. Interment to follow at Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Alzheimer Society or to St. Peter's Hospital.
