She was a lady. I miss her all the time.

Gordy, Karen: Since both of you are my 3rd cousins, I remember growing up with the Mackey clan on 4th st. in Aberdeen. Your dad was a 5th grade teacher of mine @ McDermoth in Aberdeen. I have nothing but fond memories of your family. Gladys will always have a sweet spot in my heart. Oh my stars and garders! You both take care and God Bless. Ron Wilson, Wickenburg AZ.

To Karen and Gordon: I discovered by accident that you have recently lost your mother. What a great life she had! And what a great life we had growing up in Alaska. You probably don't remember me -- I am the daughter of Margaret and Toivo Andersen (F/V Greta, then F/V Sea Haven). My brother Alan and I were both pupils in your parents' wilderness school in Pelican. People often ask me how I came to be a professor (I am a professor of economics and also of Law at U.C., Berkeley), and I answer "They wouldn't let me be a fisherman, so I ran away from home and became a professor." In truth, though, it must have something to do with the loving nurture of teacher/friends in the wilderness, such as your parents. I saw Glady about 20 years ago, and she was the same as ever, charming and positive. I hope the last 20 years have not been lonely without Arvo. Best regards to both of you and to your families.
