GLEN GREGORY Obituary

Published by Edmonton Journal from Jun. 27 to Jun. 30, 2012.
GREGORY, Glen Steve
July 3, 1938 - June 21, 2012
It is with great sorrow and regret that the Gregory family announces Glen's sudden passing. On the last leg of a wonderful two week business and pleasure trip to Phoenix, AZ, Glen suffered cardiac arrest in Lethbridge, AB and left this earth. Husband and best friend to Marianne, his wife of 46 years, loving father to John and Mike, Glen made many friends along the way and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He will be fondly remembered as a special man who always had a positive outlook on life, a great sense of honour, and most of all for his love for his family, who always came first. Glen was born and raised in Chatham, Ontario, the only child of Irene and John who predeceased him in 1969 and 2006 respectively. At 17, he left to attend Ryerson Institute of Technology but decided after three years that electronic engineering wasn't for him. He met Marianne while both were working at Kelvinator and they married in 1966. Glen moved on to Avco Delta Acceptance as an adjustor and was quickly promoted to Branch Manager in Sarnia, Ontario and finally to Regional Manager in Calgary in 1969. Following a trip to Europe he and Marianne settled in Edmonton in 1970 and Glen became a partner in Mid West Mortgage Brokers. He was a founding member of the AB Mortgage Broker's Association and their first President (1975-1977). Following the demise of the brokerage firm, he spent some enjoyable years with various Edmonton mortgage and trust companies. In his later years, he enjoyed the privilege of self employment and began Mid West Realty Limited, selling commercial properties. As retirement approached, he decided that it wasn't all that appealing, and accepted a position as a broker/manager with Realty Executives Meridian.
Glen was active in Confederation Park Little League Baseball for 30 plus years. Beginning his baseball experience by coaching both sons in little league, he later became involved as an executive member. He was passionate about baseball and was always thrilled when men he had coached as young boys still recognized him years later. He had many wonderful stories to share with us about the Challenger Division, a baseball program that he was instrumental in initiating for children and youth with physical, developmental and intellectual disabilities. He had been an active participant and past president of CASE, the Cardiac Athletic Society of Edmonton and spent some enjoyable years as a volunteer and board member with The Brick Sport Central.
His great sense of humour and positive outlook on life will serve as an inspiration to all of those whose lives he touched.
Our family would like to thank an excellent team of caring and compassionate doctors, nurses and supportive staff at the Royal Alex Hospital Heart Function Clinic, his Cardiologist Dr. Randall Williams and his family physician, Dr. Jennifer Hall. We are forever indebted to them for the expert care that allowed Glen extra years to enjoy life to the fullest.
A Celebration of Glen's Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on July 3, 2012 at Connelly McKinley - Sherwood Park - Mill Woods Funeral Chapel, 4820 Meridian Street, Edmonton (Meridian Street can only be accessed when heading SOUTH on Anthony Henday - Hwy 216. The exit ramp is WEST of the Hwy just south of Sherwood Park Freeway).
Memorial donations may be made to Glen's name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 10985 - 124 Street, Edmonton, AB, T5M 0H9.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Gregory family - Glen was an amazing community volunteer, his passion was evident for the youth of South Edmonton. He will be missed but not forgotten. He touched many lives, including mine and I consider myself blessed for knowing him.

Glen will be missed by me, my sons and many more who knew him through baseball. I first met Glen when I worked for the City as a Sport Consultant and he was representing baseball in the city with energy and enthusiasm. Little did I know I would still have many years more with Glen as a coach and parent of baseball sons. His great sense of humor, that upturned eye that gave away he was just having fun, and his commitment to helping all people learn to love the game of baseball will be missed. My family and I are thinking of Glen and his family and send our heartfelt sympathies to his family and close friends.

My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family of Glen Gregory. I met Glen over 20+ years ago when he was the contact person for an organization hosting a fundraising casino event. He was my contact for many years to come. I was truly saddened to hear of his passing.

Glen had a true love of baseball and the kids that played the game. We are so grateful for the decades of dedication he invested in the baseball community and Confederation Park Little League. We will miss Glen a lot, especially seeing him cruise around the diamonds in his old red truck. His spirit will inspire us as we move closer to the 2012 Canadian Little League Championship in Edmonton. We will miss him dearly, and our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones at this time.

Glen was a special man, I met him not too long ago but immediately bonded with him like he was my own uncle. It was like yesterday when I first sat down with him to discuss joining the team and I still remember his warm and inviting smile and genuine kind spirit. Your loss was was too soon but your legacy will live on!

I have wonderful memories of Coach Gregory teaching us the fundamentals of Baseball and buying us all a bottle of coke after the game. My love of Basball is because of him. THANKS!! My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I will remember Glen with great fondness. A gentle man whose professionalism, honesty and integrity where matched by his caring good nature and warm inner glow. I can't say thank you enough for your help in the past two and half years - I owe you!
I was continually amazed at his ability to handle so much on a daily basis with great enthusiasm and a sense humor. And of course his infectious smile.
Glen was my Mentor, Confidant and Friend. What he taught me will be remembered in the rest of my life.
I will miss you!

Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. It was a joy and priviledge to spend many Sunday afternoons with Glen, for without Glen my son and many other kids would never of had the chance to play ball.

Glen's departure from this world is a real loss for those he left behind and not only his close family that will miss him the most. It was always fun to discuss accounting with him as he knew just enough to "kibitz" about the subject and get a few chuckles both ways. His friendly personality always made meetings with him something to look forward to and at the same time he also knew what he was doing. I did not realize he was involved in so many business and community experiences but can also see that he excelled in all that he did. I know that God will reward him well for the good life he led.
