Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 17, 2008.
Glen Duke Tanner, of Spanish Fork, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 surrounded by his loving family. Glen was born on July 22, 1924 in Salem, Utah, the son of Leland Scott and Lucile Duke Tanner. He attended school in Salem and Spanish Fork, graduating from Spanish Fork High School in 1942. Glen married the light of his life, Alice Margaret Bills, on January 23, 1947 in Payson, Utah and their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple on August 24, 1962. After graduation from high school, Glen enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served proudly for two and one half years during WWII in the Pacific Theater, as a high speed intercept operator, earning three bronze stars.
A man of many talents, Glen spent his post war years working as a baker and later as an electrician for Geneva Steel. Glen then pursued a career as a Master Electrician, running his own business while working as the full time electrician for the Utah State Hospital in Provo. While there he also served in many leadership positions in the AFL-CIO labor union at state and local levels. One of Glen's passions was spending time on his farm raising Black Angus cows with Stu. Glen loved sharing his talents with others and was always looking for another cupboard or cabinet to build for his family. He loved flowers and gardening and shared his produce with others. Glen was a wonderful example, teacher, and mentor leaving a legacy of love to his children, grandchildren, and all who knew him.
An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Glen served in various callings including ward clerk, high priest group leader, and counselor in the Bishopric. Undoubtedly his most treasured calling was serving in the Provo Temple with his sweetheart for 20 years, 10 of those years as a trainer.
Glen is survived by his eternal sweetheart, Margaret; his four children, Glenda (Steve) Wilson, of Spanish Fork; Nedra (Kenneth) Price, of American Falls, ID; Stuart (Cindy) Tanner; and Annette (Jeffery) Warner, both of Spanish Fork; and a sister, Phyllis Porter Scott. Glen's legacy also includes 20 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Vernon and Ray; a sister, Donna Sparks; and a grandson, John Robert Wilson.
A viewing for all family and friends will be held at Walker Mortuary, 187 South Main Street, Spanish Fork, Monday evening, September 22, 2008 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. with funeral services on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Spanish Fork East Stake Center, located at 820 East 300 South, in Spanish Fork. Family and friends may call at the church from 9:45 til 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, prior to services. Military rites will be performed by the American Legion District Four Honor Guard. Burial will be in the Salem City Cemetery.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the caring staff at Orchard Park Care Center and Paula Petroff with A+ Hospice Service for the loving way they took care of Glen.
