Gloria Joy Cantor

Gloria Cantor, 93, of Manchester, CT passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, October 7, 2018. She was born to the late David and Irene (Feinsilver) Freeman in Bronx, NY on April 8, 1925. She and her family continued to reside in the Bronx until she settled in Vernon, CT in 1947. Gloria was a prominent member of the Jazz community for many years and became the president of the Hartford Jazz society. Gloria dedicated her time, raising funds and creating a program for children in the Hartford area to raise and foster interest in music. She moved away from Vernon in 1990, following her son Gary and his family to Florida. While there she worked with him and absolutely loved it. Gloria did, eventually end up back in CT, returning to be close to her daughter Gail, and her family. She always loved spending time with her loved ones above all else, but she also loved painting, art, music, knitting, crocheting and playing cards with her friends. Her kindness showed in her love for animals. It can truly be said that she loved life, had an incredible sense of humor and was always available to be a friend and confidant to all those that she cherished. She will be missed immensely. Gloria was predeceased by her son Gary Cantor who she is now dancing and singing with in Heaven. She is survived by her cherished daughter Gail Petrowsky and her husband Joe of Eastford, CT; loving sister Helene Harman of Florida; beloved granddaughters Jill Petrowsky of Vernon, CT and Dava Siedman and her husband Brett and great grandson Dylan of Hampton, CT. She is also survived by a grandson David from Florida and numerous extended family and friends. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
