Gloria Jean Lowe Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 31, 2024.
"Gettin' Old Ain't for Sissies"

Nearly a century before her inner light shone on her way to Heaven, Kirk and Lela's only daughter tap danced in her roller skates down Martinsburg's streets. As a young woman, she had beauty, style, and sang like a diva with big bands and little choirs.

Jean met and fell in love with her own "James Dean". John was the most charismatic of smooth talkers. Her first and most affable child was born before the marriage ended.

Soon after, she met a barefoot boy who made her laugh and sigh. She married Duke and had three more - distinctive and cosseted children. After fifty years, many travels and adventures, Jean reinvented herself as an independent woman.

Jean was a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She lived in countless homes spread over eleven states and volunteered in every community and church she joined.

As an artist, hostess, seamstress, realtor, ... she managed to do it all and stay 29, a magic age she kept for over six decades. Ever frugal she smartly swapped her birthday candles at 92 as she always knew she would.

She bravely confronted the inevitable challenges of advancing years with vim and vigor. Her secret was to always keep moving, never linger.

Demanding and demure, a lady always knows when to leave. On the longest day of the year 2024, when the sun had been at its highest point in the sky, she bid the world goodbye.

She will be missed, but never forgotten.

Love and memories from her loving family Ron, Jennie, Linda, Gary, Carole, Carl, Rhonda, Stephan, Emily, Quincy, Matt, and Ethan; and her dear friends Espor, Sue, and Kim.

The family thanks Alta, Sheila, Ann and all of the Hands of Compassion Angels who loved and cared for "Glorious" Jean Lowe on her final days.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Transitions LifeCare https://www.transitionslifecare.org/donate/

I've got so many memories of us together. We always laughed, cried and Saif words of encouragement to one another. I loved her smile, her hugs and her sassiness. I was honored and blessed to have been her nurse. She taught me so much about life. I was inspired by her determination and will. I miss her very much. She touched my heart . Fly high Ms. Jean. We love you.

Ms Jean will really be missed by all of us in Hands of Compassion. I was always happy to see her sitted at her balcony area reading her bible or daily bread. When I passed by she would be so excited to see me and I would stop everything to join her at the balcony to chat. She had the the most interesting stories to share. We already miss her but her memories we stay on. May she rest in eternal peace

Our first "date" at the NC Museum of art, where she declared that I was "A keeper. For now." That was her way - pile on praise, but hold back just a little bit to encourage growth and improvement.

I met Jean when she moved right across the street from my dear husband, John and me.
She was a very special and dear friend, in many, many ways! I thank the Lord for all of the times that we shared together right up to her very last day here on earth!
She is now in heaven, and has joined John there, and they are rejoicing with our Lord forever and ever! Praise the Lord!
With my love to your dear and precious family, Sue
