Mrs. Gloria Lett was and will always be an inspiration to me. She was my definition of Black Excellence. She showed what anyone can achieve if you work hard and give 100 percent. To those who's lives were touched by her presence, you were truly blessed. The memories I have of her as my choir director will never be forgotten. I send my condolences to her sons Eric and Marvin, the extended family of friends, staff members, past students, and others. God bless you Mrs. Lett and rest in peace.

GLORIA, a POWERFUL VOICE and Founder Advocate for the DSO´s Young Strings Scholarship Program, guiding EVERY INDIVIDUAL string student from elementary school through high school graduation and college entrance for FREE, instruction, mentoring, music books, playing opportunities, competitions, and more!
Gloria and the late Founder of YS, Dwight Shambley, forged a GREAT educational experience for all underrepresented students of color, as early as 1988. In 1992, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra officially adopted this revolutionary program.
THANK-YOU, Gloria, for being a trail-blazer, a pioneer for Equality, Inclusion and Diversity to each and every YS Scholar, for 31 years! Your LIGHT, is everlasting!

Gloria Lett was instrumental in helping and implementing the Young Strings Scholarship Program of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, founded by the late DSO Bassist, Dwight E. Shambley, who had a dream of giving FREE string instruments, lessons, music and performance opportunities to ALL the students in the DISD who were historically, underrepresented on the stages of America´s professional Symphony Orchestras. As early as 1988, Gloria Lett and other Leaders of the African American community sought solutions and thus, Young Strings was born.
THANK-YOU Gloria Lett for being a POWERFUL Voice For all the thousands of students of color who benefited from this Scholarship program, as early as elementary school, going all the way through high school graduation and colleg entrance! You led the way!! Each and every YS Scholar was individually mentored and taught by members of the DSO and other specialist-educators.

Mrs. Lett was a true example of excellence. I was in her concert choir but she taught us so much more than music, Yes I'm 53 and still know some of the lyrics to a Mozart piece because of Mrs.Lett(lol). But the respect and dedication that she demonstrated is what she demanded and rightfully so. Well its in hindsight that I see this, so if i was to sum it up by song you could say " I did it my way " but Mrs Lett was "Unforgettable"....She will be missed physically but NEVER FORGOTTEN

We remember Gloria´s voice, her laugh, brilliance, beauty, dedication to children and causes, faith and courage, to name a few memories. We feel robbed that she´s gone. We knew Gloria from the Dallas Symphony. When Gloria talked, people listened. She was great on the Education Committee of course. I enjoyed looking for her in the DSO Chorus when they performed with the DSO. Got to sit next to her on the flight to NYC when the DSO and Chorus performed Balshazar´s Feast at Carnegie Hall. The audience and ushers were in awe as the chorus made the floors of Carnegie reverberate.
Gloria was also a fellow Northwestern Univ. Wildcat like Brad.
We served on the Boards of the GDYO and Friends of WRR for years, where her service was exemplary.
She was very proud of her sons and family.
God´s peace

Mrs. Lett was like a second mother to me. She always had a smile and exuded confidence. She always set high standards for herself, her sons and children in the community. She was an example of how one ought to matriculate through life.

...a true pillar of the community. She set a standard and demanded of and aided in you achieving it! She and my mother were friends! What legacy of excellence she has left behind as a leader, devoted mother, community advocate and education stalwart. And, to her sons Eric and Marvin, I send peace, love and light.

Mrs. Lett you were my principal for 4 years but first you were my choir teacher at Catrer high school. When I came to Marsalis you welcomed me so graciously and I was so scared but you made me comfortable. The late evenings we spent talking from office to office and laughing at the day. I will miss all our moments but most of all I will miss my one and only principal.
