VALES
GLORIA
Of Sewickley, PA, died peacefully on April 10, 2015, surrounded by members of her family at Allegheny General Hospital of complications from a massive stroke. Gloria was born in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Maria Gelices and Cristobal Galvez. She married Joseph Vales in 1955 and, in 1978, they moved to Sewickley with their three children when he was appointed president/ CEO of The Joseph Horne Company. Gloria was 83 and is survived by her husband of 60 years, Joseph Vales; daughter, Maria Dugan, and her husband, Mark, of Cranford, NJ; son, Joseph A. Vales, and his wife, Dori, of Princeton, NJ; son, Anthony C. Vales, and his wife, Lauren, of Pittsburgh, PA; brother, Matthew Galvez, and his wife, Cleta, of Schenectady, NY; sister, Nancy Lorenzo, of Ridgefield Park, NJ; along with their families and nine loving grandchildren, Christopher, Anna, Joseph P., Elizabeth, Zachary, Katherine, Sophia, Keaton and Joseph C. An avid music lover, she worked tirelessly on behalf of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra during the Andre Previn years, chairing the Symphony Ball, its major annual fundraiser and promoting the Symphony Fashion Gala, a major fashion production that brought world renowned couturiers here. Gloria's lifelong interest in opera was reignited when Tito Capobianco became general director of the Pittsburgh Opera. As a result of her close friendship with the Capobiancos, she graciously consented to open her home and gardens to welcome world class performers, and for fundraising activities in support of the Pittsburgh Opera Company. She lived an inspirational life full of adventure and joy, traveling extensively collecting antiques and rare books, creating culinary masterpieces and playing a major supportive role in her husband's career and her children's and grandchildren's quality of life while building an extensive collection of cherished lifelong friendships. Funeral arrangements by JOHN E. DAY FUNERAL HOME in Red Bank, NJ. A Burial Service will be held in Holmdel, NJ, and a Memorial Service will follow later in Sewickley, PA.
