Gloria Weimer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 27, 2017.
Our mother Gloria Rose (Villa) Weimer, 90 of Richmond, VA. formerly from Gowanda, NY, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2017 to be with her Lord.

She is survived by 4 sons; Raymond (Helen) Merkt of Oklahoma, Wayne Weimer of Irving, TX , Gary (Teresa) Weimer of West Richland, WA, and Charles Weimer of Gowanda, NY; a daughter Cathy (John) Anderson of Quinton, VA; a daughter-in-law Anne Merkt of Cattaraugus, NY and 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 2 great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving son Donald Merkt, who along with his wife Anne, was her personal watchman for many decades, a grandson James (Jimmy) Merkt, and a great grandson Bradley Merkt.

Gloria was born to Charles and Rose Villa on September 27, 1927 in Buffalo, NY where, among other things she enjoyed piano lessons; a talent she enjoyed using when playing for her children, family and in church services. She also had a beautify singing voice. In her quiet times, she loved to read her bible, knit, do her crossword puzzles and solve the "Wheel of Fortune" board. She seemed to never be without the companionship of a dog or a cat, or two.

As a single young woman raising her children she worked tirelessly to make a good home for them all, for many years working 2 jobs at a time. We are thankful we were able to express to her our thanks for keeping us all together and for being our mom. Her love of children spilled over to her grand-children many of whom she helped to raise in their younger years. She was also a grandma to others she cared for. She considered them her extended family.

It was in the 1980's our mother received the gift of forgiveness and eternal life that she understood only Jesus could bring. From that day on, she was unwavering in her commitment to Him which was evident to all who knew her. In her last days, she believed it was her time to go and be with Him.

She passed away in Richmond, VA, while under the loving care of her only daughter, Cathy (Kate) Anderson, but spent almost all of her previous 89 years in Western NY, especially in the Gowanda/Cattaraugus area. For many there she will be remembered as Grandma Gloria.

We, her children, will all miss her. She was the finest person we have ever known and we all take great pride in having been her children. We loved her dearly for her unfailing love and dedication to us, her family. Her extended family and her closest friends experienced this love and many have expressed how they will also miss her.

We love you Mom. May you find the rest you so richly deserve.

A visitation will be held Saturday, December 30th at 3pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, Richmond, Virginia, where a funeral service will take place at 4pm in the chapel.

Tonight I witnessed a beautiful service for a beautiful woman who most definitely made a strong impact on her children and grandchildren's lives. I only knew you for a short time Gloria, but what I learned about you was that you were a very determined and strong woman full of life and love. I will certainly miss you and will keep your family in my prayers.

Wish we could all be there. The thing I remember the most about Grandma was her sense of humor and she was also the one relative that never missed a holiday or birthday.
