Godfrey Chowne Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Jul. 10 to Jul. 11, 2009.

CHOWNE Godfrey Hayward Godfrey Hayward Chowne, aged 77, born in Vancouver on September 30, 1931, passed away on July 7, 2009 surrounded by his loving family. Godfrey was a true gentleman and is survived by his devoted, loving and cherished wife of 48 wonderful years, Toni, his lucky and adoring children Andrew (Emily), Carolyn, Peter (Georgina) and grandchildren Connor, Ryan, Megan and Adam, to whom he was their beloved Pops. Also survived by his older brother Alfred (Jacqueline) and his nieces and nephews Kathleen, Daniel, Christine, Terry, Wendy and Wayne and his many great-nieces and nephews. Godfrey also leaves behind a large number of treasured lifelong friends from school days, University, Banff, business, the club, and the lake. Dad was a lover of life, family and friends. He's known for his great sense of humour, impeccable integrity, big heart and passion for fresh BC air - he was in his element driving his convertible to a tennis match. "Game. Set. Match." Heartfelt thanks to the staff at Capilano Care Centre, who provided Dad with dignity and cared for him with kindness, respect and patience. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Service to be held at 2 o'clock in the afternoon Wednesday, July 15th, 2009 at St. Catherine's Anglican Church, 1058 Ridgewood Drive, North Vancouver.

Dear Toni:

I am very sorry to hear of Godfrey's passing Godfrey was instrumental in hiring me at Woods Gordon in 1967 and successfully providing me with my really first introduction to executive seach as a Chartered Accountant. I really appreciated all of his help and guidence.

I recall meeting you at Woods Gordon functions before your moving to Vancouver and later having dinner with you and the Akessons in Vancouver in the 80's I believe.

My condolences to your family.

Yours truly

Ray Ryan
