Dear Mrs. CHU,
Both Tain Tain and I send our sympathies to you and your beloved family. On learning Prof. CHU's sudden departure, we, his former students here at this end of the world, are greatly sadded. Prof. CHU was so dear to his family, students, and friends. Even to this day, we remember all the intellectul and happy moments while at Southern Illinois, East West Center and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. His contributions to communication scholarship will be long felt and we are planning to organize a memorial session at an international conference to be held in Taipei in summer 2007 to register our tribute.
We send our love to you and the family,
Respectfully & affectionately,
Tain Tain & Leonard

Julia....we are so saddened to hear of Godwin. We realize what a dear friend, companion and beloved father he has been for you and your children. We wish that we could find the correct words to say, the right poem to write or song to sing to make you feel better.
Although it has been many years since we have spoken to you....I recall the wonderful times and the gales of laughter we shared with you both teaching me Mandarin for those wonderful Chinese folk songs I sang with the Honolulu Symphony so long ago. Paul and I often recall the stories you shared with us of your trips to China and the wonderful meals that we shared together....I am sure that you have many wonderful treasured memories of your beloved friend and husband.
Please extend our condolences to your children and grand children.
You each have been beloved gifts to each other and to your children and loved ones through all of these years and I pray that that sustains you in these difficult times. Much love ......MaryAnn and Paul Evangelista
