BURDGE, Gordon
Passed away peacefully with his family at his side on February 13, 2014 at 88 years of age. Beloved husband of the late Freda (2012). Cherished father of Dale (Lynne), Diane Jacques, Carol Ahpin, Brien (Karren), Robert (Linda). Proud Grandfather of Jason Jacques (Tina), Jeffrey Jacques (Chris), Dennis Burdge (Kelly), Chris Burdge (Maki), Janine Ahpin (Greg Livingstone), Kristen Fordham (Jeff), Andrew Patterson (Helen) and great Grandfather of Breianna Shepley, Kyle, Conor, Trevor Jacques, Nicholas Fordham, Hana and Noah Burdge. Dear friend of Tony Carnelos. Dear son of the late Charles (1974) Bertha May (1997). Dear brother-in-law of Erma, Elva, Maxine, Leigh and Glenn. Predeceased by Audrey, Lillian, Marie, Freeman, Everett, Robert, Warren and Earl. Gord returned to Windsor after serving in the Navy during WWII and founded Reliable Delivery Service. He went on to a 28 year term with Husband International Transport rising to General Manager. In the early 70's Gord was appointed to a 4 year term by Canadian National/Air Canada and the United Nations to set up trucking operations that became known as the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation that operates to this day. In 1979, Gord moved on to become Vice President Smith/C.P. Transport retiring in 1985. Gord and Freda and family spent many winters in his beloved Ft Myers, Fl. A special thanks to the staff of Riverside Place for all the care you gave to Gord. If you so desire, donations to the Parkinson Foundation of Southwestern Ontario would be appreciated by the family. Dear Diane and Family: So sorry to see our Gordon's name in the obituaries today. Please accept my deepest sympathy, and can only add that he was a kind, gentle, soul. He frequented my place of employment, and every visit was a true visit, with us just talking away, and at that time his better half was with him. They were a beautiful couple. Now Gordon can be by his wife/friend's side, and they can talk about good old days. I am so sorry for the loss of your father, the pain is always so deep, and oh so great! Please know I am thinking of you, and your family, and will never forget one of my favourite visitors when working at the lab. He, and the Mrs. were such a delight! Gord was a kind and generous man who employed my dad, also a navy vet, back in the 50's delivering groceries at Loblaws on Ouellette. I remember the name and the little truck. May Mr. Burdge rest in peace.
