I have just learned of Gordon's passing. I held him in great esteem and consider him among the great adult educators of our nation, along with his friends Roby Kidd and Alan Thomas. His contribution to our knowledge of the history of adult education in British Columbia and Canada was unique. Gordon played a central role in helping to develop our provincial adult education policy framework in the late 1970's and early 1980's as a member, and often chair, of the advisory committee to the Continuing Education Division of the Ministries of Education/Advanced Education. Gordon and Mary Selman together served the people of our province in many quiet yet effective ways. His dedication as a husband and father was exemplary and we should all celebrate his life well lived. Gordon was a profoundly decent man and deeply committed Canadian adult educator. Condolences to Mary and family. RIP, Gordon.

Gordon was a very kind and engaging professor in the Adult Education program at UBC from which I graduated in 1984. I have fond memories of Gordon and Mary.

Dear Mary - I saw this today and am heart broken. I have thought about you and Gordon often over the past years since we were together in UBC and wish there could have been chances to catch up before now when it is too late. I hope you are doing ok, with your family around you. I liked Gordon very much as a person and appreciated him tremendously as a teacher.
