Gordon "Gordy" Dean Young, formerly of Waco, passed away early Monday morning, April 14, 2008, at Walnut Creek Assisted Living and Memory Care in Mansfield, Texas. Memorial services and burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 18, in his hometown of Walnut Grove, Mo., at Wilson Brim-Daniel Funeral Home. Gordon was born Sept. 28, 1933, the son of Thomas and Ella Young of Phoenix, Mo., who preceded him in death in 1986. He graduated from Walnut Grove High School in 1952. On Aug. 25, 1956, he was united in marriage to Bessie Lou Mitchell from Springfield, Mo. She preceded him in death in 1999. Gordon was a retired Air Force Master Sergeant with 22 years, seven months, and 16 days distinguished service in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was stationed in Japan, Morocco, Greece, the Philippines, California, Virginia, Washington D.C. and at James Connally Air Force Base, Texas in 1963. MSgt Young was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Longevity Service Award with four oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal, and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal with three oak leaf clusters. Gordon was the operations maintenance manager at M&M Mars in Waco between 1975 and 1993. He is survived by a sister, Juanita Edmonson and brother-in-law, John; a daughter, Brenda Gambill and son-in-law, Matt; a son, Thomas Dean Young and daughter-in-law, Lori; four grandchildren, Sean Gambill, Katie Gambill, Joshua Thomas Young and Justin Dean Young; two nieces, Gayle Mars and Debra Eagleburger; nephew, David Edmonson; and two grandnieces, Erica and Cathy Mars. Pallbearers will be John Edmonson, David Edmonson, Charles Boyd, Joe Hall, Matt Gambill and Sean Gambill. Honorary pallbearers are classmates of Walnut High School's graduating class of 1951, Wesley Woods Alzheimer's Care Center in Waco, Walnut Creek Memory Care Center and VITAS Hospice in Mansfield.
