McCARGO GRANT
Grant McCargo died peacefully and surrounded by his family at his summer home of over 50 years in Edgartown, Martha's Vineyard, MA, on Thursday, July 9, after a short period of failing health. He was born May 21, 1929 in Pittsburgh, the son of Graham and Mary Remington McCargo. He was a thoughtful and loving husband and father who lived life to its fullest. His first wife, Diana Wright McCargo, died as a result of a tragic skiing accident in 1973. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Audrey Holding McCargo, his four children, Diana McCargo Swift of VT, Heather McCargo McNiff of ME, Grant McCargo III of CO and Thomas W. McCargo of PA, his three stepchildren, Robert McLean of PA, Betsy McLean Woodruff of MA and Clare McLean Cross of PA, and twenty grandchildren. He graduated from Choate School, attended Brown University, formed Graham Realty Company in the early 1950's, developed commercial real estate, and served many institutions, including on the boards of Shadyside Hospital and Sewickley Heights Borough Council and Planning. As an entrepreneur like his father Graham, his uncle David and grandfather Grant, he founded or participated in the creation and development of many business enterprises. Formerly a longtime resident of Sewickley Heights, PA, his current principal residence was Palm Beach County, FL. A passionate yachtsman, he was a member of the New York Yacht Club, the Edgartown Yacht Club and the Edgartown Reading Room. He also was a member of the Rolling Rock Club, the Duquesne Club and Allegheny Country Club. In Florida he was a member of the Palm Beach Bath & Tennis Club, Mar-A-Lago Club and The Everglades Club. Funeral services will be held at the Federated Church in Edgartown, MA on Monday, July 20, 2009 at 3:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Martha's Vineyard Preservation Trust, P.O. Box 5277, Edgartown, MA 02539.

Grant has been on my mind for a long time and now I have to thank him for his level thinking and kind disposition without seeing him personally. I still have the holiday card that you took of us dressed as chefs flaming crepes. Good wishes to you Audrey fondly Chef Tim
