Greg Millen, a former NHL goalie who went on to wider fame as one of the longtime voices of Hockey Night in Canada, died April 7, 2025, at the age of 67.
Millen spent 14 years in the NHL spread out over six teams, his longest tenures being with the Hartford Whalers (four seasons) and the St. Louis Blues (six seasons). He led the league in shutouts in 1988-89 with six, ranking fifth in the voting for that year's Vezina Trophy. However, despite his successful years as a goalie, it was his post-playing career that made Millen a household name for hockey fans. He spent 11 seasons as color commentator for the Ottawa Senators, then joined Hockey Night in Canada in 1995. He remained there for most of the rest of his career, most recently focused on the Calgary Flames. In that span, he covered 12 Stanley Cup finals, three Olympics, 12 NHL All-Star Games, and more, becoming a mainstay of hockey coverage in the process.
Longtime friend Bev Woods said on Facebook that Millen was more than just a good player and broadcaster. "Greg never missed an opportunity to support his children. A true family man. Greg always had time for a conversation and to reminisce about the good old days and the mischief we got into. We have lost the great one!"

Sincere condolences to the Millen family. I'm just a fan from St Louis, but always a huge fan of Greg. I was shocked to hear of his passing, but it brought back happy memories of Greg between the pipes for the Blues
RIP. You'll be missed but never forgotten

Millsy, we only had the one year together but it was not hard to quickly determine you were an amazing teammate and even a better person off the ice. An absolute treasure for any team or organization. Thoughts and prayers to all.

My name is Frank Brick and I knew Greg Millen. I used to pump gas near Peterborough and he would always ask for help. One night when I was watching HNIC Greg asked for prayers for my cousin live and on the air. Really and truly a man of character. I miss him now and the Millen family can be assuerd of my prayers over the next days and weeks. Love always,
Frank Brick
