Gregory Friedman Obituary

Published by Chicago Tribune on Aug. 10, 2017.
Gregory Paul Friedman born in Lake Forest, IL to Nancy and Ross Friedman on August 14, 1989; Greg left us on August 4, 2017 in Los Angeles, CA. He was a loyal and caring brother to his siblings Molly and Kevin. Greg was a talented artist, a national karate champion, and had a deep passion for learning. He excelled at football in high school and played into college at Tulane University in New Orleans. After college, Greg's career took him to Chicago and New York, before settling in Los Angeles with the love of his life, Casey Taslitz, and his beloved puppy, Rhodes. Greg was a renaissance man and devoted to family and friends. He was an avid reader and explorer of the unknown. He was authentic, dynamic and gifted; playing rugby one day and enjoying a symphony the next. He surfed, boxed, traveled the globe and lived life to the fullest extent. Greg was a loving and sentimental person; he put family and friends above all else and took care of those around him. He was strong, independent and continually pushed himself to be better. Greg was a natural born leader who touched every person that he met, and we will all miss him deeply. Greg is survived by his grandparents Elise "Bunny" Resnick, Francine (Herbert) Scully Lippitz, and Ira (Eileen) Friedman, his parents Nancy and Ross Friedman, his siblings Molly (Marshall) and Kevin, his many aunts and uncles including Karen (Barry) Gersowsky, Marcia (Will) Kohler, Sue (Ron) Weiss, Rick (Marcelle) Friedman, Mitch (Jackie) Friedman, his true love Casey Taslitz, his godson Baer Anderson, and countless friends and family who adored Greg. He is predeceased by his grandfather Eugene Resnick. A ceremony for Gregory Paul Friedman will be held on Saturday, August 12th at 1pm at Lake Forest High School Auditorium/1285 N McKinley Rd., Lake Forest, IL 60045. Please utilize the north parking lot and school entrance. Please add memories, photos and any thoughts to [email protected]. Greg is a part of my childhood. While we did not know each other well, the memories of him in elementary school shaped a part of who I am today. Greg was a cool guy, someone who I respect and admire.

Dear Grandmother Fran and the whole Friedman family;
it is so extraordinary for a child to leave this world before the older generations of loving grandparents and parents. He seemed to have so much talent and gifts and qualities to share with this world. I hope you can find comfort in the memories of love and life you shared together.
Your friend,
MARILYN GOLDEN

Nancy and Ross, please accept our sincere condolences. I just found out today about your tragic loss. Although we haven't seen Greg or you for many years, I have fond memories of him from kindergarten with Kristi and throughout their school years in LF. He was a very gifted artist even back then. My thoughts and prayers are with your family!

Ross, Nancy, Molly and Kevin: Kenny and I are so very sorry to hear of Greg's tragic passing. Our deepest condolences to you and your family and friends. I will pray for your broken hearts. I lost Kevin on June 10th and the grief is crushing. Keep your faith in God strong. Remember every day that passes brings us closer to seeing them again. Mourn not the extinguishing of the flame, but celebrate how brightly it burned.

Much love,

Sending my heartfelt condolences on your loss. While I did not know Greg very well, I had the pleasure of meeting him through mutual friends last year while spending a weekend away from LA. Despite never having met me, he was immediately kind, funny and I thoroughly enjoyed the time we spent together, however brief. My thoughts and prayers are with your family and with all that knew him.
