Gregory Karman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 27 to Sep. 2, 2010.
KARMAN, Gregory Todd April 19, 1969 - August 25, 2010 It is with profound sadness that the family of Gregory ""Todd"" Karman announce his passing on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at the age of 41 years, after a courageous battle with cancer. Todd was born and raised in Calgary, where he worked for the past twenty-eight years in his family road construction business. In 1998, Todd met his wife Kim and in 2001 they had their first son Ben. They married in 2004 and in 2005 had their second son Josh. Todd was a loving and devoted husband; his greatest accomplishments were his children to whom he was the most wonderful father. Throughout his life Todd had a great love of sports and was actively involved both as a player and a coach. This is where he met many of his dearest friends. Todd (""Big Reg"" to his closest friends the ""Lawners"") was always the event planner and loved hosting his annual Super Bowl party. Todd was an active member in the community and a beloved coach in the Blackfoot Hockey Association. Todd will forever be remembered by his loving wife and best friend Kim, and their precious children, Ben and Josh; parents, George and Karen Karman; brother Gary; grandmothers, Virginia Jacobson and Margaret Karman; aunts, Susan and Margaret Karman, Susan (Herb) Schaller; uncle Lloyd Jacobson; and cousins, Cody, Michael, Johnny and Andy; as well as numerous extended family and dear friends. Todd was predeceased by his grandfathers, George Karman and Olaf Jacobson; and uncles, Bob Karman and Glen Jacobson. Todd will be greatly missed by all that knew him. ""To live in the hearts of those we leave behind is not to die"" - Thomas Campbell. Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Todd's Life to be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Friday, September 3, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com . In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of the donor's choice. In living memory of Todd Karman, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Telephone: 403-243-8200.

We think about Todd often, especially my son Kyle who was coached by Todd. He asks alot of questions and has his "Coach Todd" sticker on his helmet. My husband Robin coached with Todd and although he doesn't open up about him, I know he misses him and especially when he is in the hockey rinks. This fall is going to be really hard when hockey starts without Todd. You will never be forgotten Todd. The James Family - Robin, Michelle, Justen, Kyle & Dylan.

We had the pleasure of knowing Todd during our school years and it was very heartbreaking to hear this news. We both have fond memories of what a great person he was. He was always very kind, considerate, and friendly to us both. Most everyone in school knew who Todd was. He was that good looking, athletic, well put together guy in the hockey coat. We also remember his fun impersonation of Bruce Springsteen's dancing in the "Dancing in the Dark" video. We remember that he wasn't just Todd...he was Todd Karman....

Our sincerest condolences to Mr. and Mrs. Karman and Gary as well as to his wife and children and all of his family and friends who loved him.

Dear Karman Family,
We are so deeply saddened to here someone so young and so full of life has been taken from us way too soon in life. Kim Ben and Josh please accept our deepest condolences on you loss. Todd I will never forget how kind you were to John during the two years you coached him and how much he looked up to you as a mentor, he thought the world of you. You told me many times how much you loved seeing John's big smile one the ice, well I think that is a testament to you and how great you were with all the kids. You will be missed Todd an I one day hope to meet you again in that big arena in the sky.

The one thing you hear rarely from me is "My Prayers are with you" They are going out to the Karman family. I knew you Todd, but not as well as most. That never stopped you from always asking "How are you doing" versus "Haven't seen you in forever" Words that stuck with me for the last 27 years. You were no ARE a Great person and I know you are loved and missed. Take care Reg, hope I see ya on the other side.

Todd, it has been a pleasure coaching with you the last 4 years. I can’t imagine the number of hours we have spent talking about hockey. It didn’t matter what season it was or where we were, hockey always became the main subject and we could talk for hours. We would spend hours working in the bush at Koocanusa, trying to get the satellite positioned just right so that we could watch a NHL playoff game. In the short period of time I have known you, your family has become one of our closest friends and your lose will be felt deeply, but your spirit will remain with us forever.

Dear Kim, Ben and Josh.
We were so saddened to hear of your loss. Todd made our hockey experience so positive and we felt very lucky Justin was able to learn the game from him for 2 yrs! He was energetic and encouraging everytime he stepped on the ice and you could see the kids just loved him. Even after he no longer coached Justin, Todd always took time to talk to us when he saw us on the soccer field, or in the neighboorhood, he was just that kind of person! 'Coach Todd' was one special guy, and we are grateful we had the chance to know him. Our heart goes out to you Kim, Ben and Josh.

What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch, we may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget.

My thoughts are with you Kim and your family

We were fortunate enough to have met Todd, Kim, Ben and Josh when our son Jacob first started hockey. We were lucky to have him as a coach that year and it was a tremendous experience. Todd's love of the game and his patience with the kids was evident everytime he stepped out on the ice. He had a great heart and he will be truly missed. We wish to offer our deepest sympathy to Kim and the boys for their loss. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you. The Rietzes (Lindsay, Danette, Zachary and Jacob)
