Mr. Festa, as I knew him, along with Mrs. Festa, were striking in their commitment to family and neighborhood, raising three wonderful children. He was a walking definition of a family man.
His fondness and enthusiasm for his hobbies, especially those listed, were obvious. He assembled a working darkroom for his photography, and fermented his own brand of wine, "From the House of Festa." All of these undertakings transformed the Festa basement into something of a curiosity factory, a walk-through of which would trigger a plethora of conversation starters.
The Festa family moved into their home in the Village Green neighborhood sometime around 1969, where they established themselves as model neighbors. Their son Guy and I met in grade school and have been lifelong pals since. Both the Festa daughters were always sweet and respectful towards me, frequently tolerating untold levels of household noise generated by Guy and me, as well as ferrying us out to just about every G-rated movie ever made. Mr. and Mrs. Festa were, of course, nothing short of wonderful.
While we share the remaining Festa family's grief, let us take solace that Mr. Festa, with his lovely wife, now resides in that Village Green neighborhood upstairs, always looking out for the kids in town. I pray these humble words find the heart-broken Festa children in otherwise good health and circumstance.
