Gustav Bush Obituary
It is with broken hearts that the family of Gus Bush announces his passing on Friday, March 17, 2023, at the age of 74. Gus died peacefully after numerous health issues, with his loving wife of over 52 years, Donna (Spino) by his side.
Gus was born in Hultsfred, Sweden. Shortly afterwards, his Estonian born parents Aleksander and Salme relocated to Canada where Gus then made his roots in Hamilton, Ontario. Gus met Donna, the love of his life, at McMaster University, in 1969. They married October 10, 1970. Together, they created a family of two children, James and Jennifer. Gus was a wonderful grandfather to Jessica and Wyatt, and great granddad to Abee, Charlie, Stefanie, and Kristopher.
Gus was an exceptionally talented craftsman, working with exotic wood. Each piece was uniquely handcrafted. Some of his finest creations include many guitars, ukuleles, and a violin with custom violin case. Gus was well known for his Bushcraft pieces that included special keepsake items such as music and jewelry boxes, jewelry, and puzzles. Gus also enjoyed playing harmonica with the Burlington Harmonica Club, and Kawaratha Marine Modelers, and enjoyed building model boats and steam engines. Gus always loved boats and started his career at the Hamilton Harbour Commission. He had a long and rewarding career at IBM and subsequent programming contracts at several large energy and insurance companies. In retirement, he pursued his passion of driving big trucks.
Vice-grips, Grandad, Gus, you were a man of many talents, with a creative eye, sharp mind, and skilled hand, but most importantly you were kind, honest, and loved by all who knew you. You will be forever cherished and deeply missed.
Visitation at Miller Funeral Chapel, Caledonia on Thursday March 23, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., church, and internment to follow. If desired, donations can be made to The Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Hello Donna. My name is Hugh Lee. I met you briefly when I visited you & Gus at your house in Scarborough I believe it was. I just read a few minutes ago of his passing.
I´m very saddened & would like to offer you my deepest condolences. Gus was a well liked member of the Metro Marine Modellers of Toronto, where he was our Steam Captain. He was well liked by all of us & were always amazed how he managed to get all his boats and equipment in that little Smart car he ran around in. He sure was a funny guy. We truly miss him.

Met gush my second time ever armwrestling didn't know what to think at first him being 71 me being 30 and let me tell you I have never been humbled so hard by a nicer man then gush his strength was incredible but what stood out even more as his personality his kindness and caring and how humble and polite he was even though he just made your hand turn purple a true gentleman and sportsman 1-0 for Gus forever rip

It is never easy to say goodbye as it can never be embraced at what we could call the right time but this we do know and can entrust, our Creator is ever faithful and knows the beginning onto the everlasting. May you each be with renewed strength as you all face this difficult time. May you all embrace the fact that there is no more pain so you can each be filled with a sense of peace. May you all cherish the richest gift of knowing you all shared the greatest portions of journeying in togetherness, enjoying priceless moments, growing through all the profound years, creating bountifully blessed memories which remain irreplaceable, sharing unbreakable love/bonds which are especially etched in each person near and dear as the precious privileged encounters have been gifted to you dearest Donna as the honorable wife to Mr. Bush, to you James the only son, to you Jennifer as the only daughter, to each grandchild and each of the great grand children as well as all family members and dear friends along the way. I am sad to learn that Gus has passed away. Gus and I had many good times in the 1960's and 70's. Gus could do anything that he set his mind to, as could his father. Rest in Peace, my friend. My condolences to Donna and family. Don Jess

Thank you to all those who posted messages, called/emailed me, planted trees, made donations, and helped support me - my sister Sandra, my niece Candice, and all of those who will attend the funeral tomorrow. Gus was loved by all. I always told Gus that 10-men couldn´t replace him. I loved going with him to arm-wrestling tournaments where he had many friends - Earl, the Gould brothers, Crazy George, and so many, many more. And, driving him to his Grip Sport practises in Waterloo with Rob and Andrew. Although Gus was not well for some time - I´m still in shock that he is gone. My only comfort is that he no longer has to suffer. My pain without Gus will be everlasting. Donna

My thoughts are with you, Donna. You have lost a wonderful and kind person. I have lost a former colleague whom I thought of every time I looked at the wonderfully crafted jewelry box , Gus had given me in 1986 as a present.

Dear Donna. I often fondly thought of you and Gus at the time we did work together at IBM. This morning I wanted to get my watch out of the beautiful box which Gus had made as a present for me. It brought back Memories and I wanted to know if I can find his whereabouts. I did.
