Gutman, Gustav age 78, of Lilydale, passed away January 11, 2014. Survived by children, Jennifer Gutman, Daniel (Cathy) Gutman and Sarah (Brad) Elkin; grandchildren, Alexis Gutman and Moriah and Rebecca Elkin. A Holocaust survivor, Gus shared his family story with many groups in the United States and Germany. Gus was a research chemist for 31 years at 3M Company in St. Paul and Austin, TX, where he was credited with 16 patents. Gus had a lifelong passion for music. He played the harmonica, the violin, and sang in many choruses including 15 years with the Austin Lyric Opera. In recent years, he shared his music by leading sing-alongs in many retirement homes. Funeral service MONDAY (TODAY), 11:00 AM, MOUNT ZION TEMPLE, 1300 Summit Ave., St. Paul. Memorials preferred to The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, University of Minnesota Center for Holocaust & Genocide Studies, or the Mount Zion Music Fund. I have the fondest memories for Gus. He had a great knowledge and passion for Music as well as Science and introduced me to the late Quartets of Beethoven. I will be forever grateful for his friendship and send my deepest regards and condolences to his family. Les Dean, Chicago, IL

Gus was one of the first people I knew at 3M. He worked in Microfilm lab and I worked in Imaging systems. He was such a delight to work with and inspiration. He was a great chemist and made me a better chemist by sharing his knowledge.
