Gustavo Flores Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 27, 2024.
Gustavo Flores, age 88, died following 19 years with Parkinson's Disease, on October 24, 2024, in Chicago, IL. Gustavo is survived by his wife of 61 years, Liuda Flores (nee Liudyte Cesna); his children, Paulo (Jeannie, nee McLemore) Flores and Lina Hilko (nee Flores); his grandchildren, Kotryna (Max Grano de Oro) and Alyssa Hilko and Tiana (Mauro Parro), Savy, and Brinn Flores; and two surviving brothers in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. He is a beloved uncle, relative, and friend of many. Gustavo's career and passion were scientific research. He was devoted to exercise and social and intellectual engagement as his strongest therapies to live fully with Parkinson's. He will continue, even now, contributing to research through brain and body donations to the Movement Disorders practice at Rush University Medical Center and the Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois. Memorial contributions to the Houston Area Parkinson Society (HAPS.org) would honor him.

Dr. Flores was a mentor to many of us on the Language Assistance team and UT-MDAnderson Cancer Center, where I met him in 1998. It was a great place to work, with the challenging patients and outcomes, but people like Gustavo were a great example to us all.

His smile is my favorite memory. I may not have caught every word he was saying, but his smile said it all. My deepest sympathies to the family.
