Guy DelVillano Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 4, 2019.
DelVillano, Guy, ("Papa"), April 4th, 2019 Age 86, Beloved husband of Anna (nee Giandomenico) for nearly 59 years. Loving father of Tony (Paulie), Ronny (Marlene), Sandy (Kevin) Marchi, and Lisa ("MyTony") Mannino. Proud grandfather of 9 and great-grandfather of 1. Predeceased by his 5 dear siblings: Annine, Ennio, Maria, Giovanni, and Vittorio. Also survived by his sister Gina. Gaetano DelVillano was born in Vacri, Italy in 1932. As a young man he became a watchmaker's apprentice. He happily performed watch repairs for customers, family and friends for many years. In 1956, he immigrated to the United States by way of ship and worked in a shoe factory in the Binghamton, New York area. A few months later, he moved to Detroit to work in an automotive plant. Here, he found a job with Borg Warner. He ventured back to Italy in 1960 to marry the woman who became his loving wife of nearly 59 years at San Biagio Church in Vacri. Together they raised four children in Detroit until the family moved to Sterling Heights in 1980. Gaetano retired from Borg Warner in 1989, which offered him a lot of time to spend with his children and eventually his grandchildren. As his first grandchild stated, "He was the first best friend and biggest fan" to all 9 of his grandchildren. Proud grandfather of Antoinette, Ron, Nick, Vinny (Caitlin), Giulia (Jared Kirkman), Lucia, Marco, Alyssa, Luke. Loving great grandfather of Gavin Kirkman. He loved attending their extracurricular activities - baseball games, tennis matches, dance recitals, art shows, and field trips, as well as just hanging out playing card games such as Scopa, Briscola, Euchre, and Thirteen and he played on Bocce Ball leagues. He was everyone's handyman and was able to fix anything that was broken. He was an avid learner and read all that he could about history, geography, science, and space exploration! He loved sports, whether it was kicking around a soccer ball or watching the Detroit Tigers. But above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. Visitation Monday 3-9pm with a 7:30pm Rosary service at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons 36900 Schoenherr at Metro Parkway (16 Mile Rd). Funeral Tuesday instate 9am at St. Blase Catholic Church 12151 15 Mile Rd (Btw Schoenherr & Dodge Park) until time of Mass 9:30am. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. We're so sorry to hear about Guytan's passing. He was a wonderful, gentle man whose face lit up when he was around his grandkids. We enjoyed visited with him and playing cards. Our kids always enjoyed seeing your folks and spending time there. They always said They treat us like family. I bet Guytan and Mauro will be playing scopa and debating about the game soon. All our love, Mario and Elizabeth

I loved Gaetano. He was such a good friend to my mom and dad. I remember going to their house when I was a kid. I remember him fixing watches for us. He always was a giving person. He would do anything for you. He was a great person. He's probably having a glass of wine with my dad right now and talking to my mom. Another person from that great generation gone. A great loss. ❤
Love,
Joann (Calibeo) Granata

Dear Tony and Paulie, we have made a charitable donation to the Right to Play organization, an international organization that promotes participation in athletic activities among children in developing countries who would otherwise not have the opportunity for sports. We made this donation in honour of Tony's dad, because "he loved to support his grandchildren's activities." More information will be forwarded to you when we have received acknowledgement from the organization.
