Gwen GALLICHAN Obituary

Published by Ottawa Citizen on Sep. 15, 2012.
LAUGHREN, Gwen GALLICHAN
Died on September 12th, 2012 in her 94th year. This woman was beautiful, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Her children Joanne Cloutier, Richard Gallichan, The Rev. Alan Gallichan, Deborah Growson and Jane Gallichan Lowe were blessed, more than words can express, by her unconditionally loving presence for so many years. Thanks be to God. To paraphrase C.S. Lewis: "We will no longer see you HERE, but Mom, eventually, we will see you THERE!"
In the words of the Anglican Book of Common Prayer:
God of grace and glory, we thank you for Gwen, who was so near and dear to us, and who has now been taken from us.
We thank you for the friendship Gwen gave and for the strength and peace Gwen brought.
We thank you for the love Gwen offered and received while Gwen was with us on earth,
We pray that nothing good in this woman's life will be lost, but will be of benefit to the world; that all that was important to Gwen will be respected by those who follow; and that everything in which Gwen was great will continue to mean much to us now that Gwen is dead.
We ask you that Gwen may go on living in her children, her family and her friends; in their hearts and minds, in their courage and their consciences.
We ask you that we who were close to Gwen may now, because of Gwen's death, be even closer to each other, and that we may, in peace and friendship here on earth, always be deeply conscious of your promise to be fathful to us in death.
We pray for ourselves, who are severely tested by this death, that we do not try to minimize this loss, or seek refuge from it in words alone, and also that we do not brood over it so that it overwhelms us and islolates us from others.
May God grant us courage and confidence in the new life of Christ.
We ask this in the name of the risen Lord. Amen

I will always remember the wonderful visits with "auntie Gwen", when I was a little girl visiting my grandparents in Ottawa, she wore the lovely hats, dresses, and purses and of course her ' bobbles/jewellery'. she was always so beautiful, kind and let me wear her hats and carry her purse and try on her sparkley jewellery, so I could pretend I was a 'movie star'.. later as a teenager, I visited her in Florida and we had lots of fun shopping in the stores.. She lived a full and generous life, and she will be missed. My thoughts go out to her family. Laura (Mallett) Whiteford.
