Gwendolyn Harriet Biggs Charles, 93, passed peacefully from this earth on January 30th, 2013 at Foxwood Springs Living Center. She was born in Sutton Valley, Anderson County, Kansas on January 24th 1920 to Bessie Harriet (Sutton) Biggs and Marvin Arthur Biggs. She lived in St. Louis until age 2 and then moved to Circleville, KS until age 14 and then moved to Waverly, KS until graduating from high school. She then received her Associates Degree from Fort Scott Junior College and spent the next 2 years teaching in 1 room school houses. She and Ramon L. Charles were married February 22, 1941. She later received her Bachelor s degree in Elementary Education in 1960 and her Master s in Remedial Reading in 1970 from Washburn University and spent the next 10 years teaching remedial reading in Seaman District schools in Topeka, KS. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ramon Charles, her father, Marvin Biggs, her mother, Bessie Biggs, brother Marvin Biggs and granddaughter Holly McDougal. She is survived by sister, Betty Owens of Branson, MO, brother, Ron Biggs, Zionsville, IN and brother, Arthur Biggs of Topeka, KS. She is also survived by daughter Barbara McDougal, son-in-law David McDougal, daughter Charlotte Pfefer and son-in-law David Pfefer, 4 grandchildren- Heather Sooley of Blue Springs, MO, Heidi Rater of Lee s Summit, MO, Gabriel Pfefer of Fort Worth, TX and Emily Pfefer of London, England and 3 great grandsons and 2 great granddaughters. Visitation will be held at Cullen Funeral Home, Raymore, MO from 5-8 PM on Friday, 2/8/13. Funeral service will be at Raymore Christian Church on Saturday 2/9/13 at 10:00 AM. Interment will be at Raymore Cemetery, Raymore, MO. Mourners may send flowers to Cullen Funeral Home or memorial donations to Raymore Christian Church library fund.
