FARMER GWENDOLYN, Ph.D.
Age 86, of Uniontown, PA, formerly of Rochester, Beaver County, passed away Thursday, November 3, 2016. Born May 4, 1930 in Fort Smith, Akansas, she was the youngest child of the late Albert and Georgia Jones. She retired after distinguished service as a Director in the Pennsylvania Auditor General's Office. Her previous employment included administrative positions in the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry and the State Department of Education. Additionally, she was former Executive Director of the Fayette County CETA program; Director of the Counseling and Placement office at Seton Hill University; and a former teacher in the Midland School District. Gwendolyn was a member of Wayman Chapel A.M.E. Church in New Brighton, PA. She was a 1948 graduate of Beaver Falls High School and received her B.S. Degree from Geneva College and her Master's and Ph.D. in Education from the University of Pittsburgh. Gwendolyn received an Outstanding Alumni Award from Geneva College. Her memberships included: Wenonah Chapter Eastern Star; Fayette County Housing Authority Board; Business and Professional Women's Organization; and the Women of Wealth Investment Club. She enjoyed a variety of crafting including doll making and ceramics, but mostly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Her husband, Dr. Francis A. "Alex" Farmer, Jr., in 1984; a son, Bruce Albert Farmer, 2005; son-in-law Dwight Lynn White, 2008; two brothers and five sisters preceded her in death. Surviving are two daughters, Karen F. White, Pittsburgh and Anita Y. Walters (Andre), Uniontown; one son, Francis A. Farmer III (Carla), Sicklerville, NJ; daughter-in-law, Mayra Farmer, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; six grandchildren, Stephen Tolliver (Tawnia), NC, Stacey White Jones (Sean), MA, Alexis Gwendolyn Walters, VA, Christopher Farmer, NJ, Ashley Farmer, NC, Chanelle Farmer, NJ; two great-grandchildren, Noelle and Ethan Tolliver; a sister, Juanita Watson, MI; and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held December 17, 2016 with interment to take place in Beaver Cemetery, Beaver, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes contributions are made in memory of Gwendolyn to the East End United Community Center, 150 Coolspring St., Uniontown, PA 15401.
