Gwendolyn Wilkerson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 8, 2012.
Gwendolyn Rose Carosso Wilkerson went to be with the Lord on July 5, 2012, in Tyler.

Services will be held, Monday, July 9, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Stewart Family Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Gary Wilkerson officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

She was born April 6, 1931, in Forest Hills, Pa., to Romeo Carosso and Sarah Morgan Carosso. She had two brothers, David Carosso and Ray Carosso.

She was married to her childhood sweetheart, David Ray Wilkerson, on June 14, 1952, in Turtle Creek, Pa. She served faithfully in ministry with her husband throughout their nearly 60 years of marriage in more than 50 countries and was deeply loved by friends and family all over the world.

Gwen is survived by four children: Deborah Ann Wilkerson Jonker and her husband Roger Jonker, their two sons, Brent and Matthew Jonker and his wife Christina and their children, Grant and Ava; Bonnie Kay Wilkerson Hayslip and her husband Roger Hayslip, their two sons, David and Brandon and his wife Christina; Gary Randall Wilkerson and his wife Kelly, and their children, Ashley, Evan, Elliott and Annie; Gregory Allan Wilkerson and his wife Teresa, and their children, Alyssa and Ryan.

Gwen's parents and two brothers preceded her in death, as did two granddaughters, Tiffany Jonker and Katie Wilkerson. And the Lord called her beloved husband, David Wilkerson, home just last year, April 27, 2011.

Gwen will be laid to rest next to her husband in Lindale Cemetery.

The scripture reference in my comments is wrong, it should be Rev.14:13.
Thank you

I thank God for the Wilkerson family who started Teen Challenge. In 1976 I was dying of an overdose and gave my life to Jesus Christ. I needed a place to go to get off the streets and away from the drug acquaintes. I went through the Teen Challenge program in Houston Texas and also the Walter Hoving Home in New York, I also attended Lindale Leadership academy where my job was to clean the Wilkerson home. Gwen would not be feeling well, but would ask me to eat some cookies with her in the kitchen. I'll never forget her kindness to me.
I am their "fruit" and the "work" of their labors. Rev. 13:14 They will have a great big jewel in their crown for helping me.

Gwen was such a gracious friend in the years I knew her, and a powerful example of steady faith despite many daunting challenges she faced over the years. May her children treasure the legacy both their parents have left for them and their own children.

I give thanks to my God upon my every remembrance of David and Gwen Wilkerson. The Lord spoke to my heart specifically thru David's writings and brought relief in desperate circumstances. You comforted me. I comfort you. What a blessing these 2 have been in the body of Christ. To God goes the glory. Bless you all
