H. Dean Mathna, 65, of 163 Shippensburg Mobile Estates, died Wednesday, November 18, 2009 in the Chambersburg Hospital.

Born September 3, 1944 in Cleversburg, Cumberland County; he was a son of the late Herbert C. and Lucy E. Nye Mathna.

He retired in 1999 from the Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg and was a United States Army veteran of Vietnam. Dean was a member of the Durff-Kuhn VFW Post # 6168, Shippensburg and was past president and a member of their marching unit. He was also a member of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223, Hub City Club and Minnequa Social Club all in Shippensburg, Marine Corp League Post # 295 and Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge # 842 both in Chambersburg. Dean was a graduate of Shippensburg High School.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marinda Kelso Mathna who died August 18, 2004, and a brother, Jay Mathna.

He is survived by two daughters, Amanda K. (Mrs. Doug) Zimmerman of Shippensburg, and Pamela A. (Mrs. Mike) Weagley of Chambersburg, two grandchildren, Alyssa K. and Daulton M. Weagley of Chambersburg, four brothers, twin brother Dallas Mathna of Shippensburg, Melvin Mathna of Pleasant Hall, Clark Mathna of Orrstown, and Stanley Mathna of Newburg, three sisters, Nancy Piper of Orrstown, Vivian Dangler of Shippensburg, and Helen Carlson of Stanley, Wisconsin.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 24, 2009 in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc., Shippensburg at 2:00 p.m. Officiating will be The Rev. Rocky W. Spear. Burial with military honors conducted by the Shippensburg VFW and American Legion Posts will be in Mongul Cemetery. The viewing will be held Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home.
