Charles was born November 9, 1935, in Fort Worth to Harold and Dorothy Hargrove. Charles graduated from Seminole High School, attended Texas A&M University, and graduated from Sul Ross State University in 1958. He married Joyce Bishop on September 2, 1956, in Seminole, and they enjoyed 53 1/2 years of marriage.
Upon graduation, Charles worked for the Soil Conservation Service in Littlefield, Muleshoe, and Lubbock. He loved the farm and ranch life and bought a farm south of Clovis, New Mexico, where the family lived for 10 years before moving to Farwell.
Being led to enter the ministry, Charles enrolled and graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1982, with a Masters of Religious Education. After becoming a Baptist pastor, Charles served in the following places: Assoc. pastor of First Baptist Church in Clovis, New Mexico, and 2 1/2 years as pastor of Live Oak Baptist Church in Decatur, Texas. The Hargroves then moved to Deer Park, Washington, where he served for 10 years as pastor of First Baptist Church. in 1993, the Hargroves moved back to their hometown of Seminole where Charles served as pastor of First Baptist Church of Loop. For six years, interim pastor of Temple Church of Andrews and preached all over the Gaines County area. His greatest desire was to serve the Lord and to have all his descendants also serve Him.
Due to ill health, Hargrove retired from the ministry in 2000. He then bought calves and returned to farming and ranching on the land his grandfather bought in 1903. He enjoyed riding his horses through the fields and gathering calves.
Charles was preceded in death by his mother and father, and his son. H. Charles Hargrove, III. Those left to remember the "Patriarch of the Hargrove Clan" are his wife, Joyce B. Hargrove of Seminole; two sons, David B. Hargrove and wife, Shelly and Steve M. Joyce, I was saddened to hear about Charles passing, but I rejoice knowing that he is in the presence of The Lord that he served and loved so much. Charles was an inspiration and an encourager to me all those years ago in Clovis. I was blessed to have known him. I look to the day when I will see him as well as my Mom & Dad among others in the presence of our Savior. God bless you.

Joyce, I was saddened to hear about Charles. I am so glad you were able to have your FBC reunion a few weeks ago.
I remember your family so warmly from your time in Clovis. Charles was such a wonderful man and so easy to be around.

My Dear Joyce, when I read this AM about your dear Charles going home to the Lord, I knew my Mother would be rejoicing in Heaven. You and Charles were two of her favorite people. We can never thank you two enough for the ministry you gave our precious widowed Mother. You even sang so beautifully at her services, her favorite song. My family and my sister Wilma will be keeping you in our prayers. Love & Prayers, Glida Hull Pitts
