Hailey Hunter Self, 27, was born on April 6, 1995 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. She began her next journey on Wednesday, January 4, 2023. Hailey lived in Seminole, OK with her husband Zachary Self and their daughters, Hazel and Ezrah.
Hailey was a cherished blessing to her mother, April Harjo and father, Virgil Harjo. From the beginning, it was clear that Hailey was a perfect combination of sweet, smart, and strong. She attended Varnum Public School and her green heart was forever a Whippet. She flourished at Varnum as an athlete and outstanding student. She met the love of her life, Zachary, at the age of six when their mothers became friends. High school is when their love story began and carried them to a beautiful and happy wedding with all their friends and family in attendance on October 7, 2017. They grew their little family with the additions of their beautiful daughters, Hazel Jude and Ezrah Jasper. Hailey’s proudest achievement was being the best mother to her girls, and she took great and thoughtful care in every detail of their lives.
At any given day you could find Hailey at Varnum school enjoying her role as a paraprofessional in the IEP program where she cared dearly about each and every student. Or you could find her at family events, or hanging out and laughing with Treven, Mvhvya and Travis, or anywhere else that her family needed her to be as Hailey always expressed her love in the most genuine way by showing up and standing beside you whenever she could. To be loved by Hailey meant that you had in your corner a fierce protector, loyal friend, and a guaranteed laugh with a dash of silliness.
Hailey was a proud citizen of the Seminole Nation, and a member of the Tallahassee band and Deer clan.
Hailey is survived by her husband, Zachary and daughters, Hazel and Ezrah of the home; her mother, April Harjo; her Mimi, Gail Bowlegs; her brother, Treven Harjo and wife Alison; her sister, Mvhvya Gravatt; her father, Virgil Harjo and wife Faye; her sister, Jaylee Harjo; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.
Preceeding Hailey in death were her great-grandparents, Billy Joe and Lana Bowlegs.
Casketbearers will be: Ben Gravatt, Travis Loving, Curtis Larney, Jake Tiger, Roman Morrell, Dakota Factor, Tyler Miller, Brendon Johnson.
Honorary Casketbearers will be: Sekani Harjo and Kobe Miller.
A public viewing for Hailey will be held at Walker Funeral & Cremation Service on Friday, January 6, 2023 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. To honor Hailey’s memory, her family is holding a wake service on Friday, January 6th at 6:00 p.m. and a Celebration of Life ceremony on Saturday, January 7th at 1:00 p.m, both at the Varnum High School gymnasium in Seminole, OK. We invite anyone who knew her to attend and celebrate her wonderful life. We ask attendees to wear Hailey’s favorite color, purple.

When I first started the 4th grade at Varnum, I was super nervous and didn't think I'd be welcomed or make any friends.. but Hailey was one of the first people to talk to me and I knew I would always have a friend in her. She truly was one of the kindest people in that whole school, with a smile that would lit up the celler on tornado drills... Haha but wherever she was, no matter what, she had everyone laughing. I remember when everyone figured out her initial were H.H.H. and from then on she was Triple H.. we took friendship pictures once in middle school and I'm so glad I'll forever have that picture because she was cheezing so big and that's how I'll always remember her.. I wish I would have let her know how much she helped me through the tough transition of being the new kid... I'm just happy I got to know her and have her as a classmate for all those years I'll never forget..so thank you Hailey... Thank you for being you.

Katherine and I called her Seminole Hailey. I loved her pure happiness, her sense of life, joy, love for Zach. Love and devotion to her girls, her mom, sister, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, family. We are so blessed that our paths crossed. I love you. I will see your joy in the purple sunrises and sunsets. Purple flowers and rainbows. Your legacy will continue through Hazel and Ezrah.
