Hal Lichterman

Lichterman, Hal Now playing at that piano bar in the sky, one of the Twin Cities' premier jazz pianists has joined the big band. Born April 14, 1924, died July 27, 2013. Hal grew up in St. Paul, a prodigiously talented pianist who started playing professionally at age 14. He enlisted in the Army in 1942, serving in the 20th Armored Division Band. Married his beloved Patty (nee Leavitt) in 1950 and with her, raised three daughters. For years, he worked two jobs, selling insurance by day and playing jazz piano by night, cementing his reputation as a gifted pianist and musician. He and Patty loved to travel, visiting Europe four times and Hawaii twice, not to mention numerous destinations in the continental 48 with the kids in the back seat. Hal had a fabulous sense of humor, charming manners, an outgoing personality and great personal style. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patty; parents; sister Rae LaVallee; and son- in-law Ron Isaac. Remembered by daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Bill Monn, Nancy and Ron Schuster, Amy Isaac and John Perlick; grandchildren, Laura Monn (Elliot) Ginsburg, Alex Monn, Elliott Isaac, Jonathan Isaac; great-grandson Harold Ginsburg. Private interment at Fort Snelling. Memorials preferred to the Alzheimer's Association Minnesota-North Dakota.
