Halcie Wethington Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 9, 2025.
Halcyon (Halcie) Claire Wethington went home to be with the Lord at the age of 33 on December 28, 2024 at her home in Houston, TX. She is survived by her husband of 12 years, John Wethington, her three children Molly, Ellie and Peter, her father Mark Pfeiffer, her brother Niles Pfeiffer, her sister Ana Pfeiffer and many other beloved friends and family. She was preceded in death by her mother Valerie Pfeiffer and her grandparents.

Halcie was a deeply devoted follower of Jesus, amazing wife, adoring mother, beloved friend and faithful pastor's wife. She grew up overseas as a daughter of missionaries in the Middle East and later married a pastor. She was known for having an exceptionally deep, authentic and abiding relationship with Jesus Christ from her youth that is reflected in the countless prayer journals she left behind. Her unshakeable faith in God impacted thousands of people all over the world as she publicly and faithfully endured a three year battle with terminal brain cancer, yet never lost her joy, peace or trust in God, even in the midst of great physical and emotional suffering. As a wife and mother, Halcie served her family with the greatest love and kindness imaginable. At the age of 22, she accepted the call to help revive her husband's home church in the Oak Forest community (now called New Day Church) and through her leadership and service helped to establish a healthy urban church that now helps revive other churches across Greater Houston.

Halcie was a graduate of Houston Baptist University (now Houston Christian) where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. While at HBU she was a fully scholarshipped runner on the Cross Country team and an Honors College student who graduated in 3.5 years. She would go on to work as a nurse in Houston for 10 years at Memorial Hermann Hospital, Black Middle School and The Source for Women, a crisis pregnancy center helping women in underserved communities. Her last job was her dream job: serving on staff at New Day Church.

Halcie loved early morning prayer & journaling in the presence of Jesus, doing all of life and ministry with her husband and best friend John, spending precious time with her children Molly, Ellie and Peter, serving her church, painting, running marathons, growing plants, swimming with dolphins, taking pictures of the sky, the color teal and many other things. Her favorite Bible verses were John 15:4-5 and James 1:17.

In lieu of flowers a college fund has been set up for her three children so they can know that their education was made possible by the faithful legacy of their mother. To give, you can visit newdaychurch.com/give and select "Halcie Memorial Fund."

Halcie will always be my forever friend with Jesus as our cornerstone. Halce, I can't wait to hug you when I see you again. I'll have so much to tell you. Until then, I'll remember how special our friendship is and will treasure it in my heart forever.
