Haldeman Wallace Guffey Greenville, SC Hal Guffey went Home to be with the Lord he loved on Wednesday, April 21st, 2010 and served in active ministry for 55 years. Hal was born in 1932 near Chattanooga, TN. He attended the U.S. Naval Academy and Vanderbilt University. He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Houghton College (NY). He served as president of International Students Incorporated (ISI) from 1967-1990. Following that, he and Betsy began International Ministries Fellowship (IMF), which he led until his death, April 21, 2010. The Guffeys had lived in Boston, Washington, D.C., Colorado Springs and Palm Desert, CA before moving to Greenville. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betsy Ross Guffey; children Alan of Portland, OR and Sondra of Sarasota, FL; sister Ruth Holt of Birmingham, AL and brother, Gene of Murphy, N.C. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 15 at 2 pm at the First Presbyterian Church, 200 West Washington Street, Greenville. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to The Hal W. Guffey Memorial Fund at Greenville First, PO Box 17465; Greenville, SC 29606. Attention: William Johnston. Funds will be distributed to missionaries Hal had mentored during his life.
