Hans Hilmar Kummer beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2017 at the age of 89 years. Hans' first job was helping his Mother with a pet and animal feed business in Germany as a young teenager. He served in the military in Germany for a period of time and met Erika Beyrich. Hans immigrated to Canada and worked for a landscaping business in Saskatchewan before moving to Calgary. He mailed a wedding ring to Erika in Germany and she moved to Canada where they were married in Calgary. Hans held a variety of jobs - truck driver for the postal service across Alberta and B.C., residential milk delivery, carpenter, and warehouse foreman. Hans enjoyed stamp and coin collecting as hobbies. He also liked to go fishing in his small boat on mountain lakes. He was good at carpentry and did his own home improvements. He also enjoyed science fiction and action shows on television. When his four children were young he liked to make pancakes on Sunday mornings and played classical music during breakfast. Hans is survived by his children, Andreas Kummer of Leader, Saskatchewan, Marie and Robin Kizzar of Portland, Oregon, Robert Leiper of Airdrie and Linda Roberts of Calgary; his grandchildren Heather Mundle of Portland, Oregon, Joseph Mahar of Calgary, Joshua Roberts of Calgary and Ashton Leiper of Calgary; and great-granddaughter Isabella Lawler of Arizona. He is also survived by his sister Margot Kummer of West Berlin and his niece Karen (Gordon) Snell of Calgary. Hans was predeceased by his wife Erika Kummer; his granddaughter Tina McPhee; and his sister Dora Bierle. Graveside Service will be held at Queen's Park Cemetery (3219 – 4th Street NW, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
