Services for Harold Steven Davis, 61, of Grand Saline, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, August 22, 2010 at Main Street Baptist Church, Grand Saline, with Joey Wilson officiating. Steve passed away August 18, 2010, in Oakwood. He was born October 10, 1948, to the late Harold L. Davis and Billie Worth Vickery Davis. He was born and reared in Grand Saline where he discovered his love of athletics while attending Grand Saline High School. Steve lettered in four sports. He received many athletic honors in football and basketball, including setting five gym records at the Terrell Christmas Basketball Tournament. Steve continued his education and love of athletics at Tarleton State University; where he lettered four years in football. He received his bachelor's degree from Texas A&M Commerce in 1989 and returned to Tarleton where he received his master of education degree in 1996. Steve's years as an educator and coach took him to Burleson, Tarleton State University, the University of Mary Harden Baylor and Nacogdoches, and his career was completed at Oakwood ISD. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Harold L. and Billie Vickery Davis; and brother, Donald Gregory Davis. Steve leaves Gail Savage Davis, his high school sweetheart and wife of 37 years; one son, Shane, and wife, June, of Irving; daughter, Ashley Beyer, and husband, Jef, of Stephenville; five grandchildren, Mackenzie, Scott and Drew Davis and Jordan and Jeter Beyer; in-laws, Bud and Nita Savage of Grand Saline; sister-in-law, Lynn Loughry, and husband, Rick; two nephews, Chip and Neil Ferguson; and numerous other relatives and many, many friends. Pallbearers will be Gerry Steele, Chip Davis, Jeff Dillard, Scotty Irons, Peyton Mullins, Tywain Myles and Steve's college coach Loyd Taylor. Honorary pallbearers are the coaches and Panther Football Team of Oakwood High School. Memorial donations can be made to: Steve Davis Memorial Scholarship Fund, Tarleton State University Texan Football Program, P.O. Box 1486, Fort Worth, Texas 76101 or Grand Saline Old School Museum. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Saturday, August 21, 2010, at Bartley Funeral Home, Grand Saline. Bartley Funeral Home, Grand Saline.
