Hal,i wish i could light a candle for all the times i quote you in the course of a day, but then they would be sending out the firetrucks for sure! You certainly molded my thinking about medicine, simplifying a complicated medical system, much to the dismay of my colleagues....as it might have been for yours as well. You are so missed and so loved by so many and i am among them, but as always you remain ever so close to us still, in our hearts. Thank you for the short time we were able to enjoy all that made you uniquely~YOU~

Dear Harold H. Gillum (&fam.),

I was a priviledged employee of Dr. Gillum for sometime starting in just the beginnings of 2000. It was such an eye opener to work for him that has blessed me to this day. I regret to say I could of used his expertise today and am sad to know he is no longer with us. I use to joke with him and say someday he would be a tribulational saint since he was so good in the field in which he was blessed in. At the time I was working there he wasn't a professing believer although surrounded my christians that totally adored him. I knew 'God' conversation was hush hush when I came aboard but for some reason we would have conversations on the subject that I wouldn't have provoked since I am a stong believer in not bible thumping and respecting the individuals stance....although I won't hid who I am either...I am hoping that his celebration of life was a heavenly one and am so sorry to have missed it.
.... I have cried my tears for today. You are missed very much, Dr. Gillum. Wish there were more doctors like you, the world of medicine would be a much MUCH better place. RIP

Dr. Gillum was the answer to my prayers ! He actually listened to me when I talked and he really made you feel like he cared about you both physically and mentally. He was that special doctor that everyone always wants to have - the real deal. He was my doctor for almost 10 years. When I found out that he passed away, I couldn't stop the tears from flowing. My condolences to his family, may the Good Lord give them peace until they see him again one day!

We were deeply saddened to hear about the loss of Dr. Gillum. While he was the primary physician to both of our mothers for a short time he left a positive, longlasting impression with us all. He had a real knack for put them at ease and making them laugh. It was a first time ever that my mother actually looked forward to going to the doctor. He will be sorely missed.

Visiting Roseville hospital in 1997 we asked a visitor if they could recommend a local physician for our needs. Dr. Gillum was named in a flash as more than just a good physician. He was characterized as excellent and compassionate. We called his office and we were not disappointed once he became our physician You can add to excellent and compassionate, humorous and understanding. We don't read obituaries very often so we missed his passing and memorial service. Robert and Lillian will always remember him and miss his doctoring. Our favorite physician was more than a healer, he became a friend.

Dr. Gillum cared for mom for the past several years. He had the perfect characteristics for her: brilliant physician, sarcastic, and funny. This was all wrapped into his personality. She was sure that she was his favorite patient! He connected with her is such a way that I have never seen. He was able to encourage her to do things that we all had considered impossible -- to STOP smoking! When she learned of his death she held her face and sobbed...this is almost like losing a brother.

God Bless his family, friends, colleagues and patients. There will never be another Harold, but may we all enjoy his great memory.

You were my mom's doctor for several years. When she was told of your death she burst into tears, sobbing. She says this about like losing my brother. The rapport you shared with my mom was perfect...humor mixed with sarcasm:) You understood her, cared about her, got her to do things we all thought impossible --- to stop smoking!
No one can fill Dr. Gillum's shoes. We were blessed to have him in our life.
God Bless his uniqueness and giving spirit. May his family, friends, patients and colleagues find comfort in his memories.

Dr. Gillum helped me when the physician I worked for was sent by the Army reserves to Germany and his orders were extended. Dr. Gillum worked with me for 7 months and from the first day he walked into our practice, I knew our patients would be in good hands. Thank you Harold for helping us in our time of need and for continuing to be such a good friend and family doctor. We will miss you very much.

It has been a fantastic 12 years working with Harold. He has been a teacher, mentor, and guiding hand in my practice beside him - giving me time to really get to know my patients and help giving them the best care I can give. His love and caring for his patients was amazing and he would fight for them against all odds. As for his "office family", well, we will deeply miss his dry wit, gentle jabs, care and concern for each of us in all parts of our lives, not just the professional one. It has been an amazing ride and one that I believe will continue on because of what we have learned from having Harold in our lives.
To his family, my heart aches for the times you will miss together but the memories will be sweet.

Ever since I first visited you in your crowded little office, only weeks after moving to Roseville in 1997, you have provided care, counsel, friendship and immeasurable good humor. When my life was endangered as a result of severe illness, yours was the hand that guided your chosen specialists to lead me through to a successful conclusion. How dearly I will miss our chats, your gentle prodding when prodding was required, and your consistent support and good advice. Too soon you have been taken from your loving family, friends, patients, and staff. My sincere condolences to all who were fortunate enough to share your wisdom, your compassion, and that mischievous ever-present twinkle in your eye. You will be sorely missed.

I first knew you as "Dr G"~our company physician, and I, the new physical therapist. You put me immediately at ease and said at our first meeting that in 3 minutes of talking you knew we would be friends for life. You said to call you Hal, "because {your} friends and colleagues do" and you considered me one of them. Your endearing smile and laughter, your huge heart filled with compassion will always be remembered. I am a better person and therapist for having known you. Friends, yes, not just for life~but forever.

My sympathy to the family of a great man and physician. One day in the mid 1990's I went to the Home Health and Hospice and asked them for the name of a doctor who liked old people. That was my mother's start with her adored doctor. My mother was raised in Fallon NV so he was a shoe-in. From regular visits, a hip replacement and even getting a flue shot while sitting in my car at the back door. He cared so much. Even though she passed in 2000 I continued to think of his kindness, as will I in the future.

Dr. Gillum, I will never forget working in your office when I was a phleb for Meris labs and your patient rooms were on either side of my draw room. You used to come in, sit in the draw chair between patients and either just chat, tell me a joke or even cry because you had to give a patient some bad news! I always thought you should be practicing in a "one doc town" because you cared so much for each and every patient, but healthcare today would not let you spend the time you wanted with them. My heart goes out to your children, family members, friends/patients and collegues. You will be missed by this healthcare community and your wit will be missed by all!!

Harold Gillum, was a talented physician and a pleasure to interact with in the Emergency Department at Sutter Roseville Medical Center. I would see his patients frequently in the ED and he was always available for questions, and had a deep knowledge of each and every patient. I recommended his practice to many of my friends and family. A sincere compliment coming from a fellow physician. He will be missed by us at SRMC as a physician, and friend.

Dr. Gillum - I am devastated to hear of your passing. You have not just been my doctor for 20 years but my friend. I will dearly miss your care, your lighthearted and witty "bedside" manner and your wonderful smile. My heart goes out to your family.

I was so shocked and extremely saddened to hear you had passed. My father was your patient for over 10 years until he passed in July. Dad trusted you! Six years ago I started going with my dad to his appts. I saw how respectful and caring you were with him(an elderly and sometimes difficult patient). Dad was always very happy when he left your office no matter the diagnosis. I know you are in heaven keeping watch over him and that comforts me. But, am very sad that your time on earth was cut way too short. I pray for your family.

Harold, I traveled many offices with you over the years. You always gave me good, honest advice. And were there for both Mike and I. It's hard to imagine that bundle of energy has stopped. I'm sure it's being put to good use somewhere else. We'll miss your common sense.

Dr. Gillum, I worked with you for so many years in CICU @ SRMC, and always admired the compassion and care that you always showed your patients. They LOVED you!!
When my mom moved up to Folsom in 2002, I asked you to be her PCP and you gladly agreed. For 6 years you lovingly took care of her, brought her humor, hope and love. She kept fighting because of you, and she had a Dr. appt with you 4 days before she died. I hadn't seen her smile for months but at that appt she smiled when you hugged her. You will live in our hearts forever!!

Dr. Gillum, you hired me and brought me into the "family" at the most difficult time in my life. I was given the time and support to heal. Because of the chance you took on me, you and the "family" were with me to celebrate the 2nd most wonderful time in my life. You made such a deep and lasting impact on so many lives. I will always remember "Daddy's Poem" and you standing with me crying. At the end of the poem are the words "They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but an entire life to forget them." Those words hold true for you also! I am who I am today because of the chance you took on me. You will be forever be in my heart and memories. You are missed and loved so deeply.

Dr. Gillum, you have been our doctor since 1990 when you had a solo practice over by the old Roseville Community Hospital. Through the years, your compassion, photographic memory, dry wit and caring personality have made an impactful difference in our lives. You have been a great listening ear during our ups and downs with kids as well as our own aging bodies and have always maintained that "sane" sense of reason and common sense. Your declining health was heartbreaking for all of us as was your departure from the practice. You undeniably made a difference in our lives. We will miss you tremendously ... safe and healthy travels to you our friend.
